This wonderful man drained an arachnoid cyst in my head on Apr. 3rd, 2024. He did an incredible job of leaving a barely noticeable cut in the rear of my skull and I have very short hair. He is very personable, friendly, gives very clear explanations of what he will do, what to expect after, etc. and has obviously been a blessing to many, many people. I hope he has many, many more years to help people.

I recently underwent surgery for Cervical C5-C7 pain. I have been suffering for 3.5 years. Unfortunately, my pain started during the pandemic and the long wait was due to our crippled medical system and not Dr Heran. My surgery was on Sept 18, 2023 and it was a complete success!!
I had two appointments with Dr Heran leading up to my surgery. I never felt rushed during those appointments he was kind, empathetic and answered all my questions. Leading up to the surgery, I had constant neck, arm and hand pain. I was taking 4 different pain meds and nothing took the pain away. I had constant tingling, shooting electric pain and complete numbness in both arms from my shoulders to my finger tips. I couldn't hold anything without dropping the item and I had a headache that just wouldn't stop. I stopped playing violin, swimming and diving which was so hard. This condition was crippling and robbing me of living my best life. I sat on the sidelines of everything and watched others live while I waited. We discussed fusion and disc replacement and I put my complete faith in Dr Heran. We talked just before I went under anesthetic and he didn't rush the conversation and talked to me like we were old friends. I reminded him that swimming and diving was very important to me and that if he could give me the most range of motion while ending this pain, I would really appreciate it. I knew fusion was a reality but I put my trust in Dr Heran to make the right decision for me. He told me not to worry and I would be back in the water in no time. I woke up from the surgery PAIN FREE!!! For the first time in 3.5 yrs, I had no pain, tingling or shooting electric shocks.. no headache and the vice clamp at the back of my neck was GONE!! I did however, have some post Op pain (completely expected) but that was not the pain I had before. Dr Heran didn't fuse my neck but chose to replace C5-6 and C6-7, which has given me incredible range of motion which is improving daily. I am 6 weeks post surgery and although I have persistent numbness in my hands, that was expected that since I had to wait so long for surgery due to our crippling medical system and not Dr Heran.
Dr Heran and my GP both said that although it may take a while, it should come back and I am ok with that. If you have the chance to have Dr Heran do your surgery, you will be in good hands. He is truly a gifted surgeon and he gave me back my life. Thank you Dr Heran, you are an incredible surgeon and human being. I am back in the water just like you promised.

We are profoundly grateful to Dr. Heran for his invaluable contributions. His expertise and exceptional abilities in his field are truly remarkable, but what sets him apart is his genuine concern for his patients. Throughout the course of my husband's medical journey, Dr. Heran has performed six surgeries with unwavering dedication.

During each encounter, Dr. Heran has consistently displayed an extraordinary level of assistance, care, and compassion, surpassing the expectations of his profession. Despite the multitude of doctors who have endeavored to aid my husband in his recovery, it is Dr. Heran who undoubtedly shines brightest. His brilliance and genius are unparalleled, making any comparison to other medical professionals futile. Without a doubt, Dr. Heran is the epitome of excellence in his field.

I knew I was in good hands right from the start. Not only did this man preform a discectomy (c4/5,c5/6,c6/7) to save me from paralysis and daily chronic pain… but he’ll be helping me very soon with an inter cranial aneurysm that was incidentally found during the surgery on my neck. So grateful that I was given grace by this man multiple times. His skill and knowledge enable him to be an incredible help to many people. Also, dealing with his office was a breeze and Crystal was always very kind and responds in a timely manner. I highly recommend Dr. Navraj Heran.

I'm a 74 year old female still in recovery after a second follow-up discectomy at the L5S1 level 4 months ago to remove a disc fragment causing nerve root compression. I continue to have left foot neuropathy and must wait a year or so to find out if my symptoms will improve or are permanent. I met with my neurosurgeon, Dr. Heran, today to discuss some complications that occurred immediately after this second surgery that involved a 2 week hospitalization and infusion antibiotics treatment. We also discussed medication treatments to manage the foot pain and he took the time to test and assess my current status.

The second surgery was cancelled and re-scheduled twice, which was frustrating, but at no time was there any reason to believe Dr. Heran was to blame for either. The management of the health care system is primarily to blame as well as the provincial government's insistence on clinging to an outdated and ineffective single pay government policy. Having to send cancer patients to Bellingham for urgent radiation treatment exemplifies how hypocritical and unfeasible this position has become.

I've been under Dr. Heran's care for over 4 years now and his skill and knowledge have provided me with a resolution of my worst symptoms. For that I am eternally grateful. I appreciate his candor, humor and willingness to answer any and all of my many questions. I would have absolutely no hesitation recommending Dr. Heran for a consult.

I have a low grade glioma in my brain and Dr. Heran has been seeing me fore over 2 years. He is very quick and efficient, very knowledgeable of his discipline.
He has a nice and comforting voice that gave me a lot of confidence before going into the surgery. I had a fast recovery from the surgery. I stayed in the hospital for less than 24 hours and was able to live like a normal person in less than 2 weeks.
I wish to note here that, he is one of the best nuerosurgen here in the lower mainland, this means that he is super busy. It is possible that you have to wait for awhile to get in touch with him, but just take that as a good sign that your case is not that urgent. As he will always make time for more urgent cases.
Overall a great doctor, you will be lucky to have him as your neurosurgeon.

Recently, I posted a negative review of Dr. Heran , which I would like to now retract. I have searched for that review, but for some reason, I cannot now locate it. With regard to this review, I apologise if I gave the impression that I was criticising his quality of care. I am sure that his skill as a surgeon is excellent. That was why I was hopeful for a referral to him in the first place. The root cause of my frustration in having had my surgery date bumped four times stems from the difficulty in accessing timely care that everyone in BC is experiencing. If you, like me, need to find a highly skilled neurosurgeon, I do recommend this doctor.

Nearly 20 years ago Dr. Heran performed brain surgery on my Dad after he suffered from a burst aneurysm in his 50s. My wonderful Dad recovered and lived on to eventually sell his business and retire, travel with my mom, become a grandfather 3x over, and celebrate a beautiful 50th wedding anniversary with all of us last year.

I have been meaning to share his story so you know how truly grateful we are.

Thank you, Dr. Heran and team at RCH for saving his life and blessing us with extra decades of love and time together ❤️

I don't know how I can thank Dr. Heran and support staff:
Laura: for accepting my application for a consult and possible surgical services of Dr. Herans expertise : neurosurgery.
I am a retired ER nurse. During the last 5 years I was suffering from lower back pain, which progressively became severe. It got to the point the pain was radiating down my right leg. I was rapidly loosing my mobility: to the point I was hanging on to chairs and walls to move around my home.
Long story short, he accepted me as a patient and I was booked for a L4 L5 fusion.
I had my surgery November 14, 2023. This surgery was a huge success
I have never looked back.
I am 100% pain free and thanks to Dr Heran I have a new lease on life.
Dr Heran is a very kind , gentle and most professional soul.
I would highly recommend him.
Thank you Dr. Heran
Heather, R.N.
