Despite a progressive and disabling condition, Stress and Urge Incontinence, I waited for over one year to agree to a consult to the Urogynecology office of Dr. Hilger. I could not find adequate medical literature to allay my anxieties. Then, after using slim pads for years, I found myself purchasing Depends for Urge Incontinence. I requested a referral to his office the next day from my own gynecologist. Once again, she assured me that she frequently referred her post menopausal patients to his office, not only for incontinence, but for the progressive uterine prolapse that I been ignoring. During the weeks that followed, I confessed to his office staff that I was frightened about the upcoming surgery. "Honey," the receptionist said, said, "You will be a whole new woman!" "Right!" I muttered to myself, frightened out of my mind. Dr. Hilger drew pictures, answered questions, explained the presurgical assessments required to fully assess my gyn status. He was truthful reqarding my expectations. I might need to continue Vag Fem. I might need to continue Mybetriq. As it turns out, I very much needed the surgical repair. The diaper wearing for Incontinence is just a symptom of much larger problems, Uterine, Bladder, Rectal prolapse. This is a major surgery. This disease does not go away, it becomes worse. It confined me to my house. To go to social events, I had to plan finding a restroom for the hourly visits that I required. How I let this life altering disability consume my social life and limit my access to the outside world is not entirely my fault. My own community gyns do not offer it. And, the medical literature is relatively scant. By the urging of my own gyn providers and the assurances of the Urogynecology Consultants, I consented. Weeks later, in my final post op visit, I found the receptionist who had once reassured me, and thanked her. With tears in my eyes, and hers, I reminded her what she promised me, "Honey, I am a Whole New Woman!" And if this story is not entirely convincing, I am a Family Nurse Practitioner with a Masters degree in Community Health. I have worked in health care since 1974.I am 66 years old, a mother of two. Wellness visits post menopause should be addressing the very real disabilities that occur as a consequence of vaginal deliveries and Aging. Womens Health Care needs to be addressed wholistically, and not symptomatically. We desperately need more forward thinkers and surgeons like Dr. Hilger and his entire staff, to discuss our health options as we age, as "new women" in control of our health.

Dr. Hilger and his staff have gone above and beyond to make sure my needs were met before ,during and after surgery. They are all compassionate and caring. Being a healthcare professional, I was very choosy in choosing a surgeon. I defiantly know I made the right choice. I\'m satisfied with my experience in working with this team.
