A few years ago, he performed my tibial tubercle osteotomy, cartilage grafts, laterally release, among a few other small things he did during my operation. His office was good to me, but I am also a patient who is on top of everything, so I didn't encounter any issues. Yeah, he's pretty confident, but he improved my life on a level I didn't think was possible. His PA was great and took care of m throughout all of the lubricant injections I had to get Bc, well, my knees don't retain lubrication. They are awful shots but his staff was so kind and his office became a second home. I am so glad he was my surgeon. He was recommended to me by one of Boston's top ortho surgeons. Now I know why.

I recently relocated to Oregon and work in downtown Portland. OHSU and Dr. Crawford's office were recommended to me by a Physical Therapist and Ergonomist for both knee and shoulder issues. At first it seemed fine. The typical x-ray, consultation with the PA, followed up by MRI. Then things began to get worse. I was told that the injuries weren't very bad, and that I might be a candidate for a new procedure for my knee and that physical therapy would take care of the issues with my shoulder. After a month of PT my shoulder was worse. The PA consulted with Dr.Crawford and they decided that I would not be part of their clinical trial but that I should instead receive a series of injections and more PT, but that the injections needed pre-approval. The insurance co. denied the procedure because OHSU required to use their own pharmacy to provide the drug and the insurance company wanted to have OHSU purchase it from them. Bureaucracy at its finest! The office staff called to let me know that my procedure was denied. I asked what the next steps were. She rudely said "well you can pay for them yourself if you still want them." I let her know that was not an option, and asked about alternatives. She said she didn't know and would contact the PA to find out. I waited a week... Nothing. I called and left a message on a pre-recorded line that said I would be contacted back the same day or next. 3 days later... nothing. I called again and was able to speak with a nice young lady who explained the insurance situation again and looked in my chart to see if the PA had been notified. She hadn't. So, the nice young lady sent an email and let me know that the PA would get back to me that day or the next. I waited 2 days, hearing nothing, called again. I got the same girl, still nice, and she sent another email. Finally, the next day I get a call from another office staffer. She goes through the same story about the insurance denial, and still no word from the PA or the Surgeon. Finally, a week later I get a call from a Nurse who says that I need to go to a different doctor.
As if complete mistreatment by the office and medical staff wasn’t enough, OHSU got my address incorrect and failed to send me any bills. I found this out when I called to let them know that I was being treated elsewhere. I spoke to a man who said that he was sending me a bill for charges and that it would be taken care of in collections. I received a bill, paid it, and then I found this out when I was called by the Oregon Department of Revenue Collections and told that I had another bill in arrears. I called OHSU Billing again, and was told that in the notes in my file the first billing representative had lied and wrote that I was aware of charges in collection. This was a complete falsity, the representative said that he would send me the bill for all the charges and I let him know that I had the funds to pay them in full if they would ever send me what I owed. The call from Oregon Dept of Revenue said that I owed more than two thousand dollars charged by OHSU, a very large sum for no treatment! The second call to OHSU and the woman was nice but went through the same spiel about “we sent you a bill…” I informed her that it was to an incorrect address, they received it back undeliverable, etc. I told her that OHSU will be pulling the account back from OR Dept of Revenue and will be sending me the bill that should have been sent in the first place. The Billing rep said that it wasn’t a normal thing but that she would send me a bill of the charges due. I am waiting to see if this will finally be complete. I had my first appointment March 31st and it is now September 19th. I will tell everyone NEVER to do business with OHSU! I will also verify with my insurance company that the charges they are claiming I owe are allowed.

I had a successful Patella tendon surgery a year ago and I am now scheduled for meniscus surgery in a weeks time with Dr Crawford again. Bedside manners are not going to get me back on the tennis court, but a competent surgeon is . Direct should not be mistaken for rude !

I can't say anything good about this doctor. His surgery didn't fix the problem, he point blank told me he wouldn't repeat the surgery if needed, and has the worst bedside manner I've ever seen in a doctor. His ego is so large I'm not sure how he gets thru the door. He's attempted to change scheduled appointments on me, both for surgery and for a visit I was supposed to do later this week. I should have listened to my gut instinct after reading the other reviews on this doctor, and found a better surgeon. At this point I wouldn't let him touch my knee for free. Stay away!!!!

I am not sure why my honest and factual review was deleted, but it bothers me. Dr Crawford did two of my shoulder surgeries. The first one was not successful. The second one nearly killed me. Yet when asked for an apology, they plainly refused to admit their guilt. It doesn't even bother me as much that the mistake happened, but it does bother me a lot that no one, I mean no one, listened to a word I said or did a simple assessment. They just chuckled and wheeled me out to the garage. Later that day I would be admitted to another hospital with a life threatening complication. All I can say about this doctor is that he is arrogant. Very likely beyond his knowledge or skill. I will never go back to see him.

My husband had ACL surgery and miniscus repair by Dr. Crawford over 3 years ago. He did a fabulous job! I'm unfortunately going to have to have knee surgery too and the only dr. I would trust to do my surgery would be Dr. Crawford. He is very knowledgable and competent. Some might take his manner as rude but we found him very likable. He's confident in his work and it shows. My husband has had no problems with his knee since the surgery. We highly recommend him and his staff.

I was provided a sincere second opinion that resulted from Dr. Crawford and his team listening to my history and considering my needs. The plan of management, outlined and started on the day of my office visit included considerations to the pain of my injury, a practical approach to rehab and a consideration of how my recovery would influence my daily life and return to my activities.

One of the best in his field. He successfully repaired my severed ACL, PCL, LCL, stretched peroneal nerve and broken tibia in one 4 hour surgery. (And a follow up surgery to remove hardware 2 years later). Now, 3 years post-op, I am at 95% of my pre-injury ability. I can understand that some people may not appreciate his no-nonsense attitude. But considering his exceptional ability as an Orthopedic surgeon.. It's WELL worth the minor social discomfort to receive a fully functioning extremity. I would highly recommend him.

very knowledgable. straightforward and no-nonsense doctor. correctly diagnosed knee injury as ACL/medial meniscus tear before MRI results came back.
