This has to be one of the hardest offices to get ahold of! Several times I have called and no answer, emails, voicemail and nothing. When I went to my last appointment I was scheduled at 1, I sat in the waiting room 45 minutes! Then when I was called back they were not concerned, rushed through my appointment and acted very dismissive! My husband doesn’t want to start over w a new neurologist but I really dislike this office! I would NOT recommend him to anyone.

My Mom had a non-malignant brain tumor and was sent to Med. City-Plano by the Gainesville medical center. They were the third choice after Sherman and Denton hospitals weren't immediately available. I now know she would have been alive and much better if I had have insisted on somewhere besides Plano and Dr. TOMPKINS. He was so busy with other matters, he doesn't have time for his patients. When I would intercept him sometimes, what he would tell me wasn't true or didn't really apply to Mom. He assured me she would be home and back near normal in 3 months. Yea, right! Because of poor post op care under John Tompkins direction, she never made any recovery at all. He could see for himself she was not making any progress from the very beginning. Her first follow-up visit was by wheelchair in ambulance and the next one was on a stretcher in an ambulance. The next follow-up was to be in three months; she lived for about two months. He nor anyone else connected with his organization seemed to care at any time. At least I got the satisfaction of seeing on the Texas Medical Board website that he was punished for his care-less attitude toward a patient.

I was referred to him from the ER. I made sure he is in network with my insurance and he is. I saw him on Jan 9th, was prescribed 3 meds. Got two filled the day of but the 3rd script didn't have a quantity written on it. Pharmacy called his office, I called his office and ended up not getting the script until a week later due to the fact that his office is lacking basic communication skills. The doctor requested I get an MRI, had to pay a lot of money out of my pocket for that and was scheduled a f/u appt. for Jan. 30th. I get a call on Jan. 26th from his receptionist saying that he's not in newtwork with Aetna through Walmart so she had to cancel my appt. I called my insurance company and confirmed with them that he is in fact in network. I had filed a short term disability claim through my job due to the injury I was diagnosed with. I feel that he refuses to see me because of the short term disability claim I filed. He refuses to fill out the paperwork so I can earn money while I'm not able to work. He even wrote me a doctors note saying I needed to be off work until Jan. 31st. But he wont fill outa form for me STD claim. I'm very disappointed and will be filing a complaint with the medical board. I feel it's unethical that he dismisses me as his patient after I've spent all this time and money to wait to see him again to only have my appt. canceled. Now I have to start the process all over again and find a new neurosurgeon and pay out more money for a new pt visit just to have my $1200 MRI looked at to tell me if I have a herniated disc and need surgery. I will not recommend him to anyone I know.

Dr. Tompkins performed 2 surguries on me. I had a spinal fusion and now I have 0 issues. Could harldy walk before the fusion. A few years later he performed my craniotomy and within 3 days I was sitting on my sofa. Although, I was told that was very unsual to rebound so quick.

Jeff Ketzle was equally impressive. Really had a talent for putting me at ease and was extremely knowledgeable as well.

Thank you both,
Brandon Lutrick

REALLY! EVEN THIS ONE STAR IS MORE THAN HE DESERVES TO GET. I'M FIND HIM ONLINE ABOUT 2 MONTH AGO AND MADE SURE HE ACCEPTS MY INSURANCE. THEN I GOT AN APPOINTMENT WITH HIS OFFICE FOR WHICH WAS ABOUT A MONTH WAIT ( UNDERSTANDABLE ) A DAY BEFORE APPOINTMENT THEY CALLED AND CANCELLED MY APPOINTMENT CAUSE THEY SAID DOCTOR HAS AN EMERGENCY SURGERY ( IT HAPPENS RIGHT? ) SO I WAS IN SUCH A BIG PAIN I SAID OK CAN HE POSSIBLY SEE ME IN ABOUT A DAY OR TWO? I DIDN'T CANCEL THE APPOINTMENT AND HE DID AND THEY SAID NO I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL 2 WEEKS AFTER !!!! SO I PATIENTLY WAIT THEY CALLED ME AGAIN THE DAY BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT AND SAID THEY HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE INSURANCE PROVIDER AND THEREFORE THEY CANT SEE ME !!!!! REALLY DOCTOR ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS YOUR POCKET AND NOTHING ELSE ??? I'D NEVER EVER DO THIS TO MY CUSTOMERS. THIS IS IMMORAL, INCONSIDERATE AND NOT HUMANLY ACCEPTABLE!
YOU COULD HAVE AT LEAST OFFER TO SEE ME WITH A OUT OF POCKET DISCOUNT. APPARENTLY YOUR ISSUE WITH THIS INSURANCE COMPANY HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A WHILE, ITS NOT FAIR TO CANCEL THE PATIENT AT A VERY LAST MINUTE AFTER THEY WAITED FOR OVER 2 MONTH!!!!!

I appreciate Dr. Tompkins attention and help with my spine issues. I would recommend him highly. As far as his staff goes, first I would fire the receptionist who never does what she says she will do. I also had the same problem with them scheduling tests, etc. On Monday morning it is like they have never heard of you. Getting them to return a phone call is impossible and the information you are given is often times incorrect. I believe the medical treatment I received was top notch, but the receptionist's attitude and reluctance to help will perhaps prevent me from continuing this relationship. It is impossible to get past her in order to speak with anyone about anything.

Here I am 6 days after visiting the DR's office and his staff hasn't been able to arrainge an apt for an MRI... I called them yesterday and it appears as though my call "reminded" them of their assigned task. In the mean time I take a handfull of narcotics each day and live in significant stenosis generated pain.....
