Dr. Alladin was my doctor for almost 35 years before he retired. For 25 of those years, he was an outstanding GP ; knowledgable, empathetic, friendly and highly competent. Then his practise quite suddenly reversed field ; he became impatient, callous to the point of rudeness, more obviously interested only in making money - and worst of all, no longer competent.

Much of this decline co-incided with his decision to replace his long-time and excellent receptionist Barbara with his wife, a woman completely unfit for the job. I can only imagine the motivation to be financial, as this woman had zero empathy, zero manners ; at one point, when I phoned to schedule an appointment after pulling my back, she refused to give me one, instead snapping "plenty of people have back problems"....seriously ?

Alladin himself lost his competency at the same time ; I can remember 3-4 instances when his diagnosis and treatment fell significantly below what a competent doctor would have done. It was disturbing to witness, particularly in combination with the belligerent attitude that surfaced at the same time.

At one point I considered changing doctors, and actually found an available replacement. Out of a sense of loyalty however, I decided to remain as his patient. It was a huge mistake. Although his attitude improved, his competency remained sub-par.

He'd always promised that when he retired, he'd transfer me to another doctor. Then when he finally did give up his practice, all I got was a sorry-excuse phone call blaming the government while he cut me adrift.

Dr. Lenny Alladin....the name leaves a bad taste in my mouth now. For years I thought of him as more than just a doctor...as a friend of sorts. Then over the last ten years of his career, he managed to betray any sense of trust or faith I'd previously had in him as a doctor. His wife as receptionist...don't get me started.

I accidently found out he was retiring only a month before he left. Consequently, several months were wasted where I could have been on the gov't waiting list for a new GP. Had I not phoned at that time and heard his wife/ receptionist's message , I never would have known. I think it is essential for a family doctor to have a receptionist who is moderately polite. She wasn't.

Had him as a GP for about 3-4 years, when I was in my late teens and early twenties. Refused to refer me for an x-ray after I reported hip pain so terrible it left me unable to sit (and be present in class) and even sometimes made sleeping difficult. His reasoning was that "we don't x-ray young women, it might harm their ovaries", which I found preposterous and sexist frankly. A later doctor gave me a referral for an x-ray which revealed that one of my legs is shorter than the other, causing both my scoliosis and the joint paint I was experiencing.

He also refused to follow me when I started anti-depressants (initially prescribed by a physician seen through the ER) because "I don't do psych meds". Overall negative experience, did not feel like my complaints were being listened to.

I found that over time Dr. Alladin has become dismissive at times. He is impatient when you try to ask him a question and don't come with too many problems cause his receptionist (his wife) will tell you he does not have time for all that. His wife as receptionist has got to be the coldest, matter of fact person you can ever meet. Her disposition can also be very abrupt. You certainly don't feel welcomed.

Then you see Dr. Alladin and you feel you are under pressure to make sure you cover all your ailments. He used to really take the time to really explain things to you but it has since become an abrupt explanation and sometimes a diagnosis that makes no sense.

Back in 2019 I had a problem with my left ear and felt there was a wax buildup. His diagnosis was it was dry and a bit of wax to be remedied with a countertop ear cleaner. Needless to say it didn't work. Went back to him and this time he tells me I have liquid in my ear. . He then sends me for a hearing test. Does not know the cause does not send me to an ear specialist; he sends me for a hearing test. How does that resolve the liquid in my ear and what will a hearing test tell him the cause is?

The incident that brought it to an end was back in January I was given a medication to try out and it it worked he would prescribed it. At the end of February I called and said I would pickup a prescription on a certain day. to coincide with my husband's appointment with a specialist that was a block away.. Unfortunately the appointment was rescheduled and I postponed picking up the prescription. When I called to re-schedule I was told that I had to pick it up by 10:30. This was not convenient for me and I then asked if she could fax it to the pharmacy. I was told in on uncertain terms no they didn't do that as they had no way of charging it back. I countered that other doctors did that I didn't understand why she couldn't after all it was just a fax. After several minutes of discussion I said I'd have to call back for another time.

A couple of weeks went by (circumstances prevented my from going to his office) and on March 19th I called and got a recording that they were in self imposed confinement due to their being on a trip and would return in two weeks. The recording said to leave a message if you were in need of a prescription. So on March 21st 2020 I left the information requested. It said to leave your name, phone number and information about your prescription and pharmacy number and Dr. Alladin would call you back. I never got a return call nor did I get a prescription..

By now we are in lockdown for two weeks or so and on April 1st I left another message and mentioned that I didn't understand why all of a sudden they were capable of faxing the prescription when back in February it was not feasible.

Subsequent messages were left on April 15,and 16th at which time the pharmacy had made several attempts to get the prescription on my behalf. It took for me to threatened to leave daily messages for me to get a call from his wife who proceeded to tell me that I had to wait for her to get to the office as she only went a few times a week.

I live one hour and half from the office and I am at a high risk for COVID-19 which was part of one of the messages. We had not reached full lockdown at that point but did not want to go to the office to pick it up.

I finally got the prescription on April 21st. On July 8th I received a letter telling me that he was dismissing me as a patient.

His lack of professional ethics along with the rudeness of his wife left me feeling that I was much better off without his services. So in the end he did me a favor.

My favourite Doctor and Assistant. Very warm and funny when appropriate and serious when needed. The Doctor is very knowledgeable. I have been with them for 8 years and I actually look forward to going when I need to. I have many related illnesses and Dr Alladin found me great specialists and referred me right away.
