Im only going to say one thing here because my story is a long one. Be sure to bring a witness and advocate with you on every single visit so you have, someone credible to back up what happens in that office. My other advice if you are having problems is to please first have a witness then call Quality Care for Coastal Health and get them to help you to find another clinic. Id rather take two ferries to the lower mainland than to be bullied by a con artist. Im only here because I have suffered Chronic pain all my life and needed to find help when I moved here five years ago, this is what I get after jumping through hoops for years. An evil troll wanting to classify me as a street addict and only willing to treat me for opiate withdrawal when I have been on prescription pain care all my life. Over my dead body is what I say. Thank You to all of you that have written your experience here, it really has helped me to decide my path and I hope you are all finding your way too. I somewhat sympathize with this Dr as I really believe her job must be stressful but treating patients like she does will only make it worse for her with Karma. I for one am not afraid of her anymore.

I believe Dr McGuire works through program parameters and I respect that but it would be helpful if she could go the extra step for people that don’t quite fit her parameters. She is well educated and well informed but knowing that her lack of information for her clients will put them back on the street looking for pain relief is unprofessional and heartless. Just my opinion.

Dr. Maguire is by far, one of the best Addictions Specialist and GP in our local area. Her willingness to take this on in our rural area, seemingly on her own, with local backlash, etc. of which she has endured for many years, makes me also look up to her as one of my healthcare heroes.

Best Dr for people whom are genuinely honest she's been at my side for 7 years on and off due to other issues I had to get meds too that she doesn't allowed but her common sense and my Dr and I always seen through need over dependence dont lie to her or you will be in trouble it goes without saying if you ask me so dont be quick at judging her because of your issues. Do what you are asked of from her if you seek her help.

Had Dr. Maguire threaten to cancel my entire methadone prescription unless I immediately submitted to a long forgotten blood panel requisition at our local hospital. Completely unessecary and unethical considering It is in my files all information of my previous panels that I had already taken within the same year in other cities. Nothing had changed. I don't use needles or share any kind of drug apparatus. I went to a GP for a benzodiazepine RX and was immediately within less than an hour of dropping my RX off at the pharmacy cut off and removed from having my carry dose privileges. My very first time attending the clinic she refused to see me unless I got a blood panel done before any prescription was to be considered. You are not allowed to have carry doses unless you are on 10mg or less a day as per her own rules/guidelines. So basically if you are having any issues and are on a higher dose, dont expect carry doses. The transit system in Powell River is **** therefore if you dont have doctor prescribed carry doses your life becomes a living nightmare, all about getting your daily witness. Good luck getting to the pharmacy if you dont live close by to one or don't drive. She is spiteful and uses the carry doses as a means to manipulate the patient. Her attitude varies from nice to ***hole. It depends on how she feels about you that day. Many times you will arrive on time for an appointment and still wait over an hour to see her even though nobody is ahead of you seeing her. No idea what is going on in the back. I've watched people wait so long to see the Dr. for their prescription that they walked out the door to pick up fentanyl instead. So therefore putting their lives at risk. She had the audacity a few times to ask that I pay my monthly fees when I wasnt even a month behind on paying them. That is the secretary's job to monitor and ask about fees. Not the doctor. Not to mention I was shocked to find out that they make you perform a witnessed urine screen. Where they have someone go into the bathroom with you and ensure you dont cheat the urine screen. I found this very uncomfortable and unusual as I have never had this happen at any other methadone clinic I've ever been to. The whole operation is highly unusual.
The secretary makes and holds personal calls during office hours for the whole clinic to overhear. Highly unprofessional & Not very personable. Overall this is the second worst methadone clinic I've been to apart from the one on 6th St. In New Westminster. I really hope she changes her ways for the sake of her patients. Btw she made just under a million dollars last year. So dont be commenting and saying she makes close to minimum wage. That is bs. Methadone & suboxone are cash cow businesses. They dont go into it for fun. Even the pharmacists take issue with her. I could go on. But bottom line is its a scary thing to have to walk on eggshells because she is the ONLY methadone doctor in town. Most people are afraid to piss her off lest they lose carry privileges. Or their meds in general. It's a scary scary thing to be at the mercy of such a person for your essential life giving medication.

Well addicts can be the best liars and most clinical or educated people are university educated she had a regular family practice and I like her a lot when I was her patient, she went into specialized area of handling addicts, worst and i am speaking from experience, she's a single mother or was, and hardworking and most doctor's and pharmacist are to certain degree drug dealers, but we put ourselves into our own situations, and we can't reply solely on counselors, doctors, etc. people who want change will make those changes. I miss her and sad to read what some of you are saying, how much money did you all spend on drugs, so if you compare that and see overall picture, harm reduction or reality of how society is towards us then we can move forwards together. I see addicts lie to your face and think nothing of it, living with someone the more he lied the more he believed his bs, so give Dr. Marie McGuire a break, she was brave enough to assist the sickest people with mental illness.

This doctor threaten my family saying if i don't go back to her for treatment that i will lose my children. I am clean and off any drugs so how am i going to lose them ?? I am a vary dedicated parent thank you. All she is about is money she charges for clinic fees and try's to sell you merchandise like lock box's for your med's that she got for 1/4 or the price she is pushing them for. Biggest drug dealer in town plain and simple and once you go on the program good luck ever getting off because she wont let you.

I'm in so much pain I had to get another doctor to prescribe pain meds and Maguire takes away my carries.!!!I've been clean for over two years I don't deserve her bs.while I sit in the hospital.
