For over 10 years, I lived with the effects of Thyroid Eye Disease. Both of my eyes protruded, were red and watered constantly, and felt very irritated all of the time. Last year, I was finally fed up with the irritation, hiding behind sunglasses and closed doors, and just “living with it”. I personally wanted and needed to change my situation. I decided to face my fears of orbital decompression and begin researching doctors who had extensive experience in dealing with the inflammation and protruding eyes that Graves Disease had given me. When I came across Dr. Gilliland’s profile, I was highly impressed with his reviews, expertise, and devotion to correcting the effects of this disease. Upon meeting with him, I knew that this was the doctor that was going to help me feel better and change my life. Dr. Gilliland did not just meet with me and schedule my surgery very soon after that. He ordered CT scans of my eyes, performed field of vision tests, and made sure my throid levels and other blood tests were normal before he would schedule surgery. He explained every detail and answered every question that I had. He definitely covered all bases before allowing surgery, which I appreciated because it really eased my mind. I had one eye done in November and the other a month later. Both eyes healed perfectly and feel and look really amazing. You can’t even tell that I once struggled with TED. I look like myself! When I look back on my surgery experience, it makes me wonder why I was so scared to do this years ago. However, I am so thankful that I waited until I found the right doctor to do this for me. It really was not a bad experience at all. but very positive and empowering. Anyone who is struggling with the effects of TED should definitely consider meeting with Dr. Gilliland. He has a really caring and positive demeanor and backs that up with years of research, experience and positive results. He is an absolute master of his craft and I am forever grateful to him for helping me.

I have been a practicing anesthesiologist for nearly three decades. During the majority of that time I have known Dr. Gilliland and I have had hundreds of his patients that we have treated together. As a surgeon, Dr. Gilliland has demonstrated to me that he is an intelligent, thorough and a caring doctor. He would often manage the most difficult patients with excellent results. I consider him to be one of the finest clinicians that I know, and that is why I am his patient as well.

I had a complication from another doctor's surgery leaving me with discomfort and uneven eyes. My result after surgery was great and the staff explained the process to me in detail. I'm very pleased with my experience.

Their medical staff -especially CAROL- are exactly what has been said HOSTILE IDIOTS!! They billed my old insurance company instead of my current one, causing me to have a messed up credit score for an INVAILID reason. When I confronted them, they were very rude and tried to blame me on their stupidity. The doctor is no better. He is rude, spends no more than a minute on the eyes and the results are no good. This place is a colossal waste of time and money.

This review site has given me a sense of vindication on what I experienced with the lady over billing at Dr. Gilliland's. I've never experienced such unprofessional treatment before. The best way to describe her, she was a pitbull unchained, coming after me ready to bite. She did not care who heard when she confronted me in the hall. I cried from the humiliation when I left. My referral was sent over that day within the hour after I called my pcp, and she told me she would wait for it. She called and left a message in the late afternoon telling me that since the referral was not sent, I owed Dr. Gilliland in full. Fortunately, my insurance company saw the referral was sent over that day. It took months to resolve because she refused to file even though the insurance company called twice, telling her to file. In the meantime, the office threatened me with letters. Due to the difficult behavior experienced from her, I will never ever use Dr. Gilliland again.

It's a shame, but also a fact, that a doctor's success is ultimately tied the quality of their staff, and this doctor's staff is absolutely hostile! I wasn't able to even make an appointment because the staff was so unhelpful, and unfriendly. How can I willingly allow myself to risk a less than desirable, surgical outcome, for which I may not expect sufficient support, or possibly even be able to contact the physician, due to the tough insulation of poor staff. This doctor needs to familiarize himself with the operation of his office, and make changes that would welcome and support patient contact.

I had both upper and lower eyelids scheduled and prior to doing so got a second opinion. This highly qualified doctor supported all efforts of Dr. Guilliland and recommended him as my surgeon. He is not warm and fuzzy, but through, efficient and capable. I trust him.
