I shattered my ankle, tibula and fibula in a bad accident. Iirc it was 37 peices that dr O'Brian reconstructed. 2 plates 12 screws. I'll take a minute here to mention that I was and am a fairly fit and lean person but that despite this dr O'Brian did go over the importance of diet and healthy food to aid recovery as well as mentioning that I should be careful to during recovery not gain weight as it would stress the repaired joint. I can only assume this is where the negative reviewers are coming from. I raced downhill bikes throughout my life, and I asked her if I would be able to still do so, her response was to the extent of " absolutely if you put the same work into your recovery as I will into repairing it" and as somebody who has been in surgery many times in life I will go to war for her as she is the sole reason I am able to walk normally, not even a limp after a 50 foot fall directly onto a single leg I asked her how good she was at fixing ankles and she said "I'm the best" and I later learned that she worked for the calgary roughriders performing the same surgeries. Some might see this as her being smug.. it was confidence and I knew it as such.. exactly what you want from a surgeon. Under a year later I was riding bikes, working trades again. Many years later she was also the doctor that removed the installed hardware as I was having rubbing of hardware against skin inside boot and it was causing me issues. Upon assessment she asked me to walk down the hall and pivot and return which I did. When I returned she smiled at me and said she felt fairly proud of the work she had done " you don't even have a limp"!! And after the surgery to remove the hardware I never really did get the proper chance to tell her how grateful I was for everything she had done for me. If you can t handle reality she's not the surgeon for you, if you want the best chance to have full recovery and are willing to set asside your own issues and heed her advice you will not regret it. I owe you so much and I hope you read this review and know I appreciate everything .

I required a bunion repair surgery in 2004 and found everything went exactly as planned with no surprises . She is very forthcoming with explaining the issue requiring surgery, surgical procedure to be done and postoperative care. Amazingly( as my foot was very painful) she substituted me into my husbands already scheduled surgery date allowing me to have surgery within a month. Now that is compassionate care.

Dr. O’Brien did the knee replacement surgery (both knees) for my father who had advanced osteoarthritis. As a result, he enjoyed a very significant improvement in his quality of life for many years. Near the end of his life, one wish he had was to write Dr. O’Brien to thank her personally. I regret not taking the time to help him write the letter. I had witnessed firsthand the incredible difference it made for him to have had a skilled surgeon give him fully functioning, pain-free knees.

I am taking my terrible experience with Dr. O'Brien to the College of Physicians. If you must see this doctor, I urge you to use Alberta Health Services' "My Care Conversations" or other recording method. You may need it to back up your complaint to the College one day. Dr. O'Brien was disrespectful to me and dismissive of my health concerns. Like many others who rated her on this website over the past few years, she body-shamed me, too. If you have ever experienced an eating disorder, I warn you - she triggered me. BIG TIME. I cannot recommend this physician to anyone, for any reason.

Dr. O'Brien is not only an awesome surgeon, she is straight up. No hold backs for her. She explains things in a way that you can understand and if you don't, she try until it makes sense. I've been with her for 20 years, she has always done the best for me. I have nothing g but great respect and admiration for Dr. Maureen.

Obviously She has hired someone to write her great reviews - this doctos is an absolute worst - She removed my mother from the surgery based on looking at her X-ray for literally 10 seconds - she was told to bring an interpreter on her own and when she did, the interpreter did not even get to say a word - what a pathetic doctor - I am reporting her to the college of physicians and seeking professional complaints

Kimberly Sallans.
I saw dr O’Brian today. I am really broken. For 2 yrs I have been getting worse. Dr after dr, test after test. No one knew why my thigh and gluteal medius was atrophying. My hip is not bad enough for surgery. Which I kinda knew. But I thought perhaps all the other issues due to my hip might make it a possibility. Unfortunately no. BUT Thanks to Dr. O’Brian I actually understand what is happening to me. She took the time to explain it until I understood. I read the latest reviews on her and was thinking. GREAT another dr who doesn’t give a s**t. Man was I wrong. I am covered in tattoos. So judging based on my appearance was a non issue. I am angry and frustrated about My prognosis. , But I am
Grateful for her compassion and to her for taking the xtra time to explain it so I understood.

Well taking time to rate someone who has no business holding the title of Doctor. Dr O’Brien has no people skills, extremely rude and seems to judge people on your outward appearance. To be honest my rating should say it all!
