Due to allergies caused by immunotherapy for cancer had no drugs for pain. over many years she worked with me to find solutions to pain, and we tried many novel things. She would call with no solutions she read about, or saw or heard at a conference. She never forgot you and cared deeply for you. With 3 go arounds for cancer and a car accident I really appreciated the excellent care I received from her over 16 years.

I called her in 2005 & I at least she let me talk with her for 10 minutes about my friend she was treating...without mentioning my friends name (but Helen Hays knew who it was) I warned her that my friend was only using her to get high on drugs. An amputee who got addicted from her previous medical help. This person was close to a lost cause back then & now today is a total morphine & any pres. drug addicted junkie & all thanks in my opinion to Helen Hays not listening to me. Since then other Doctors in pain help told my friend she was a drug addict & needs help & rehab. Of course being in denial she never got help & is a spaced out all day long now. Thanks for nothing Hays, when & this patient will overdose it will be because you ignored my cry for help.

Dr Helen Hayes was my pain specialist and Angel on earth the last 3 years she practiced before retiring. At the time I had no idea just how renown she was in her field or I would have felt I was in the midst of royalty, instead of just greatness. Dr Hayes was given the Order of Alberta, Order of Canada and a list of ackalades longer than my arm, she was THE most caring and brilliant doctor I've had the pleasure to meet throughout all my years of suffering. When I was sent to Helen I had already planned my suicide and was ready to carry through, I had decided this doctor was the very last humiliation I was going to go through regarding pain and judgments. Immediately Helen had me at ease as I broke down telling my story. She was so kind and understanding and immediately treated my pain and put me on a plan that WORKED. She was THE LEAST judgmental person Id ever met - she understood, she saved my life. I miss her terribly, there is no other HEALER PHYSICIAN out there like her.

The most humble (yet immensely knowledgeable & compassionate) Dr. Helen Hays saved my life. It's as simple as that. After being bounced from specialist to specialist for years, I eventually had to choose between lucidity & pain control. From the first day with Dr. H., now on the right meds, I began to transform back to my old self who could now drive my car again, and to think clearly enough to even go back to work after several years of being on disability. Thank God for Dr. Hays. She taught me enough so that I now have the tools to manage my pain issues within a framework of logic & understanding, not emotion & compromise. She most definitely deserves her place among the Top 100 Albertans for all of her work in developing people's understanding of appropriate Chronic Pain Management practices. this doctor saved me ater battleing disease for years dr. hays figured out a plan then put it into motion i can walk and lead a normal productive life now she is truly the doctor i wish more could be and i am so sad she is retiering she hugs you when you sad and makes you feel like a real person i dont know what i would of done with out her she changed my life for the better

Dr Hays is a pill pushing witch doctor that doesn't care about her patients quality of life. As soon as you start asking questions or offering feedback that doesn't match her expected results she will refuse to see you as a patient any more.

Although I have never been her patient, she made a fabulous contribution to the Chronic Pain clinic. She is truely concerned with a persons well being. I did talk to her and she answered every question I did pose to her & Dr. Knight both agreed with what was presented. The two very professional Doctors deserve our respect & admiration. They do know where we as patients are & what we are up against. Downright honest & to the point. I have Adhesive Arachnoiditis & a host of other issues. They covered the entire subject. If there were a better way of rating them I certainly would. Thank you to both Dr Hayes & Dr Knight.

Most caring, knowledge able and professional Doctor I have ever met. When I was referred to Dr. Hayes I has been suffering with chronic pain for about five years. I had been to numerous specialists and had many different doctors overseeing my case. Dr. Hayes worked with me until we found a combination of medications that allowed me to regain my life. Since then, I have returned to work, am a better mother to my children and feel that I have future. I only wish there where more like her.
