In 2009 he said surgery to replace my aorta would give me another five years. I was 79 at that time. I am now 95! Dr. Andrew Maitland, I am eternally grateful for what you have done for me. Thank you!

He did an operation on my husband who was a cancer survivor and the operation killed him. I will never forgive him As he should have known not to try to operate when the heart was so fragile.

Dr Maitland repaired my mitral valve 5 years ago. He explained everything very well including the risks of surgery and my prognosis if I didn’t have surgery. He is a very experienced and well respected surgeon. I did a lot of research prior to seeing him. As a bonus he is also very personable.

Am very fortunate to have had Dr Maitland . He did my aortic valve replacement 24 years ago, and I am still ticking thanks to him. Calgary is very fortunate to have such a talented doctor in town.

Dr Maitland does not tell you when the surgery will be scheduled. In my case it took a year. After 9 months, his staff called me for surgery at 10:27 for surgery at 11:00. ie 33 minutes!! RIDICULOUS. Not enough time even to drive over to the hospital. For the next three months they would not return my 8 calls but instead he wrote to my cardiologist and family doctor complaining that I was a no show. After surgery he NEVER came to talk to me during my stay-- I don't know if he came to see me while I was sedated.. I was released on 5th day. I mentioned that I am not feeling well. The nurse basically ignored me. On the 6th day I was rushed to emergency and re-admitted. Even then he did not come to see me. Three months later on my follow up appointment he apologized (BIG DEAL!!) for the nurse not informing him and "pushing" me out. Obviously, he is knowledgeable in is skills (I am still alive-- lucky?) but to me there is a whole side to medicine which he badly lacks. He is always in a hurry but not when he bad mouths other doctors.

Had the privilege of having Dr Maitland perform my heart surgery almost four years ago. He performed the minimal invasive surgery and you can hardly notice the scar. Very professional and easy to talk to and discusses the procedure very well.

Dr. Maitland performed a complicated and rare heart surgery on our son. His skill was fantastic, but other than that he was also informative, humorous, and polite. Five stars are not enough for someone who gives your child their life back and returns them to their rigorous activities and gave us, as parents, the peace of mind to know that it was done skillfully and thoroughly. It has been a couple years since the surgery now, and all has been well. I can't thank him enough.
