My mother was a patient of hers before I was born, and it was Dr. Hildebrand who delivered me at birth - I have been seeing her ever since for the past 28 years as my GP. I've always been able to open up to her with mental health struggles, and she has been amazing at helping me find the right medication + dosage that would be best for me. She has also provided me with various referrals over the years (physio, surgery, etc.) which have always gone well, and is also knowledgeable on various counseling/ therapy programs that I was able to enroll in. She really listens when I'm explaining the reason for a visit (be it physical or a mental health reason) and provides good advice/ course of action. I never feel rushed when I speak with her, and I will be so frickin' sad when she retires! No clue how I'm ever going to find a GP where I have a relationship the way I do with Dr. Hildebrand

I have been a patient for 30 plus years and will cry when she retires. She has helped me thru so many medical struggles, the birth of my son and all of his medical issues. She really gets to the root of the problem and doesn't supply a bandaid for you she wants to see what is causing the issue to begin with. I would recommend her to anyone.

Overall a good GP for over 30 years. Resistant to technology (phone & virtual calls and online booking) and new medical testing / advancement. Only started minimal online booking & phone visits due to COVID . Trying to make an appointment through reception is a nightmare as it is ALWAYS busy and more than once I have been dismissed or yelled at by staff. Would change GP office if not for lack of available GPs taking patients…. Even after 30 years. No one deserves to be treated that way, especially when you are seeking medical support.

Dr Hildebrand is thorough and knowledgeable. I have been seeing her for 20 years and now all of my sons see her. She genuinely cares and follows up on everything. I feel like I can trust her with any problem - physical or mental. Yes, her appointments do run late, but that is because she doesn’t rush you. I am so thankful to have her as a doctor for myself and my children.

Dr. Hildabrand has been my doctor since I was 4. I am now 34. I am dreading the day that she retires, and hope she never does 🤣. She makes me feel 100% comfortable, and has not once misdiagnosed me and has encouraged me to get outside treatment for an eating disorder that almost killed me. I always feel guilty about wasting her time, but she always takes the time to address all of my needs.

I don’t mind the lateness, I can handle that and would prefer every patient get adequate care even if it means me waiting an extra 20 mins.

What I don’t like is that she has misdiagnosed me with something before (HPV), had me panic and worry for two months waiting for my appointment with a specialist (gyno), only for this specialist to tell me I was misdiagnosed. I’m glad I didn’t invest in all the expensive medication/treatment she prescribed me for that. I am so lucky I had a gut feeling to wait before treating (she was literally googling treatments in front of me so I wanted a second opinion from the vag specialist lol) or I would’ve been in huge debt now. I was practically the Virgin Mary too, it didn’t make sense. I also just recalled she prescribed me a treatment originally that has been made unavailable in Canada because it is so harmful to the body :) so that would have been fun.

When I returned back to her with the gyno’s verdict she didn’t believe me, and recommended I still go ahead with treatment when I’m ready. She also continuously forgets even though I have told her explicitly that youth under 25 can get the HPV vaccine for free in BC at any youth clinic. This is really valuable information to pass along to patients, because before I found that out she told me I should pay over $200 to get those as a 20 year old — that was not within a student budget at all. She also told me that I should get a Pap test when I turned 22 but as soon as I turned 22 she started telling me 25. I think she just doesn’t want to do my Pap test 😂 which is fine I’ll go to the gyno she referred me to because she was lovely.

Additionally, I brought up potentially wanting a breast reduction and asked for more information/a referral to a surgeon. I understand she wanted me to weigh all the options because I’m young, but it definitely came across to me that she was trying to convince me out of it because I’m in my prime years and I should keep a womanly figure. I ended up taking her advice at the time and not pursuing a consultation, but just recently now have explicitly asked her for a referral and that I am 100% sure of it and she said she will get me one, so that’s good at least.

The cherry on top was when I came in for anxiety I have been having. I brought my friend because he has really helped me get through this new struggle (it was really sudden and persistent and I was having trouble coping, feeling very overwhelmed) and the first thing she tells me is to download some meditation apps and try counselling. I have tried CBT and I plan on continuing with that, that’s no problem. But 1. She didn’t even bother to ask questions to determine what I needed and 2. I hate how more senior doctors these days are so dismissive of anxiety — YES, it’s weird that millennials are being diagnosed at alarming rates with anxiety. Totally get that. Doesn’t mean we should be stripped of proper treatment just because doctors want us to be guinea pigs and see how far they can push us before giving us medication, because medication is a “crutch” ... ? I don’t care if I have to be on medication, I just want to feel healthy.

I am writing this not so much to dismay people from visiting her, I don’t think she’s accepting patients (?) could be wrong. I more so hope she reads this because I am switching doctors to someone who is more open-minded, empathetic, and also closer to where I live. I hope she changes some of this before she retires, but it’s difficult to change when you’ve had so much success doing what you’re already doing, so I get it.

She is a friendly Dr but i find lacks empathy. I do feel rushed but to be fair most Dr's rush you these days so i cant hold that against her. I feel like a stranger every time i see her though, even when she calls me back because we NEED to discuss test results. I'm all in a panic and then she asks me why i am here today. She hasn't even looked at my results and they are normal??? Seems like some upselling to get me back in for a paid visit. That's the most disappointing.
