When my mother and I first met with Dr. Wilson he seemed nice and ran several tests with my mother before deciding the right treatment for her.
My mother had a very aggressive form of Lymphoma. She was in remission for only 9 months.
Dr. Wilson referred my mother to the Jurivinsky Cancer Centre and gave her the option for stem cell transplant. After being told that she was a good candidate and she had a 1% chance of getting blood infections, my mother signed up for the transplant in hopes that she wouldn't have to do chemo for the rest of her life. My mother went through the stem cell transplant this past summer.
She ended up being treated for 3 different blood infections. In a hurry to fill her bed with another patient waiting for treatment, the Cancer Hospital in Hamilton couldn't wait to discharge my mother as soon as possible. They discharged her unwell after 3 weeks. They dumped her back with Dr. Wilson. They would refuse to take her back when I asked.
My mother came home to me always low on Magnesium. Her visits to Dr. Wilson always followed up with a transfusion. My mother was getting worse and I didn't know how much time I had with her. Dr. Wilson sent an urgent referral to an internist which was never received. My mom had to wait a week to find out. Dr. Wilson sent out another urgent referral a second time to the same internist. They gave my mother an appointment right away but she had to wait a month. I knew she couldn't wait a month in extreme pain. The last appointment that my mother had with Dr. Wilson her Hemoglobin was low. Surprised he didn't admit her to hospital that day, her life could have been spared. It was clear to anyone she was getting worse. So he sent her home with Steroids and more pills. The pills fooled us because her stomach felt better. But it didn't get rid of her infection. She couldn't even make it a week to see him again. He had all her records from the stem cell transplant and knew she was treated for blood infections. Despite knowing all this, despite what the tests came out as, he should have admitted her much earlier and investigated her problem. I was disappointed and hurt that he did not take immediate action to have her admitted. He has way too many patients, which is still no excuse for his carelessness which cost my mother her life. Everything he said to me after my mother passed away was unacceptable because he could have done more. Why didn't he treat her like the cancer hospital in Hamilton did after her stem cell transplant? They knew how to treat her, they knew what to do. Why??? He had everything from them. I am not Happy with Humber River Hospital and I am definitely not happy with the choices that Dr. Wilson made for my mother. She could have still been living if she was better taken care of!

Dr, Wilson is a very nice man, He listens, sympathizes with you and tries to help the best he can, However he is knowledge is extremely outdated. I was under his care for over 10 years and did not receive the care I needed. Unfortunately I had no idea. I ended up getting a referral to a Thrombosis Clinic at a major hospital by my OB. I then learned that I was not even tested for all clotting disorders and that I could have had procedures done to cure my symptoms. When I asked him about these procedures he either said it was not true or that he never heard of them. I continued on with the Thrombosis clinic recommendations and my quality of life has improved drastically. I no longer have pain. Unfortunately I will have to wear compression stockings for life because the damage of not being treated properly for such a long period of time has caused severe damage.
Do not see this doctor for any blood clotting issues. Go to a Thrombosis clinic such as Toronto General Hospital or Sunnybrook.

I've been seeing him for a few years for iron deficiency, he's been fabulous, very personable, proactive in his decisions, doesn't wait for problems to happen, tries to prevent them, and I have found him to be thorough and friendly and knowledgeable and everything I'd want in a doctor.

I saw him a few years ago and it was OK. He has a very busy practice as a lot of Dr's do today. Overall he was a pleasure to meet and deal with.

My dad has been under Dr. Wilson's care for over 6 years. I have to admit that when his condition first appear Dr. Wilson was excellent at controlling it. As the disease progressed there were obvious gaps in the quality of care he delivered. Like most physicians, he has difficulty listening to patient concerns and in an age where email communications could make his life easier, he does not embrace this method of communication as other physicians are starting to do. He is hard to get in touch with even during office hours. He is very busy indeed and that is frustrating from a patient perspective in terms of accessibility and disease management. If you are under his care, ask him questions. Don't let him assume you understand everything.
