I was injured and broke my talus bone (ankle) with a ~40% chance of avascular necrosis (broken blood vessels that stop the supply of nutrient to keep the bone alive) if I don't get immediate surgery. It happeen around 10am and I arrived at ~1030-1100am to PPC and was seen by Dr. Maria A. Ibarra. She have X-ray the foot and told me I really need immediate surgery (a high risk of amputation). So instead of calling Danville Orthopedic Clinic, Inc (125 Executive Drive, Danville, VA 24541, United States) 0.4 mile away or Danville Regional Medical Center (142 South Main Street, Danville, VA 24541, United States) 2.6 miles away for a emergent trauma orthopedic surgeon available. Instead they sent me to Morehead Memorial Hospital (117 East Kings Highway, Eden, NC 27288, United States) 22.4 miles away and when I arrived and checked by Okafor M. Lekwuwa, MD. He told me why I am here, there is no trauma orthopedic surgeon to work on me (The staff at PPC fails to call nearby hospital for the appropriate surgeon). So my friend drove me back to Danville and we went to see Kramer Stuart J MD who took care of me. He first called DRMC and found out that there was a surgeon who would have work on me but by the time he called (5-6pm) it was too late in the afternoon for my surgery (because of the failure of PPC to call in the morning). So, then he called Regional One EMS (cost me $1152.89 out of pocket for the 84.7 miles ride) to drove me to Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital, (101 Elm St, Roanoke, VA 24101, United States). I Arrived CRCH around 10pm, and meet up with some orthopedic surgeon who agree that my foot need to get operated immediately but he said it was too late at night to schedule my case that day and the best he can do is schedule it with another doctor (Dr. Trevor M. Owen, MD) for early morning surgery. So... PPC totally wasted my time, cost me more money and could have cost me to amputated my foot! Later they sent me a couple of bills for their amazing services. I talked to the billing people about my experiences and wanted to work on the matter of what happened and why didn't call the surrounding or the appropriate doctor to take care of me. They said they didnt know anything and sent me to the billing manager Stephanie Scholler (dont know the exact spelling) who told me that they did called Eden Morehead Hospital to check if they would accept me and they did, that's why I was sent there. I don't believe they have ask for a orthopedic surgeon that everyone know I needed. Then I asked her why didn't she call the nearby hospital and clinic that does have the orthopedic surgeon that I needed instead of me risking a chance of amputating my foot and if this was her son or daughter wouldn't she call the nearby one first. Her answer is I don't know and try to reassured me that everything was done properly. I asked her that again, and she said yes. Then I asked if I can see on file of anything mention to call DRMC or Danville Orthopedic Clinic. Nothing was found. She told me to talk to talk to the Director, Marsha Rittenhouse, and gave me the phone number of 4342003927. I called for a week and no answer. So I walk back to the office and asked to talk to the manager or Dr. Maria A. Ibarra or there is any other way to get in contact with the director so I can give them my file of what happen to me. They said that they can take the copy of the file and make sure to give it to the director. And... I never heard of anything back. Well now the collection agency is calling me to pay the ~$244 bill, which I have no problem paying other than the fact that I didn't get the proper service and it end up costing me more and I have a track record of it. Well if you finish reading this, thank you.
