Dr Yap’s been my Dr for decades and he has progressively gotten worse over the years! He is dismissive and rude, talks over you without finish listening to you. Mis diagnosed me twice. Old school mentality, very dismissive of mental concerns. He focuses more on his student Drs vs treating his patients, very egotistical. I’d rather do walk in clinics vs seeing him.

Bedside manner terrible, doesn't listen. Doesn't like to you you to interrupt but will do it to you. Feel he makes the diagnosis based on the information they ask for before you can get an I. Person appointment. Talks to you like and imbecile. Could go on an on but it enough hours in the day. Can't wait to find another doctor that I can trust is going to look after me with compassion and dignity. Not sure why he became a doctor, might be very clever but that means nothing if you can't trust and connect with him

Dr. Yaps bedside manner is terrible sometimes I honestly believe he has a mental health problem, you can go to see him one time and he'll treat you with respect and listen the next time he talks to you like your a child and he has missed a diagnosis a stomach issue with me also and gave me the wrong meds which was corrected by a specialist which meant I had to go on a another round of the correct meds which was really hard on me. Very hesitant to do tests , if there wasn't a shortage of gp's I would switch to another doctor right away.

If I could give Dr.Yap a 0 I would. Terrible bed side manner and terrible punctuality, waited 1.5hours to see him. Completely disrespectful and dismissive, is very fast in just prescribing medication instead of actually listening to symptoms and trying to find the root. My sister also went to him, got misdiagnosed and prescribed medication for a mental health Disorder she didn’t have. Went to another doctor that actually took their time to order tests and diagnostic screenings and that she actually has MS. A lot of suffering could’ve been avoided.

I have been a patient of Dr. Yap since he took over the practice from Dr. Steinson many many years ago. I can't think of a time when I have not had my needs met. I find some of these 1 star reviews hard to imagine. Dr. Yap is experienced and professional and I don't recall ever having a bad appointment. One thing I will say is he does seem to have a lot med students, which you can opt out of if it is not your thing. Also I am a low maintenance patient

Dr. Yap has been my family physician for most of my life and over the years i have grown increasingly overwhelming anxiety every time i need to get in touch with him. He is extremely rude, dismissive, and has no compassion or understanding for mental health related issues in any circumstance. I have left most appointments with him in tears. i believe he should not continue his practice. After a disturbing appointment recently where i brought up my mental health medication, he laughed in my face and told me i need to deal with it myself. I called the front desk and told them to send on the message that Dr. Yap is a piece of Sh*t and i am no longer a patient with them! Front desk lady said she would pass on the message and hung up. Good riddance.

I stopped going to Dr. Yap over a year ago as my experiences with him had (generally) been very frustrating but my last appointment was quite disturbing. So much so that I reached out to a advocacy group in order to relay my experience.

My local mental heath organization had told me of a disability tax credit that I would qualify for as I have been on disability for bi-polar for almost 20 years. As they suggested, I brought the required form into Dr. Yap to sign. He was unbelievably rude and dismissive.

He relayed a story in which he flatly refused to sign the disability form for another patient who had lost his legs in a workplace accident because "he could get a job sitting down so he doesn't qualify." I sat there dumbfounded and didn't know how to respond to his callousness. He eventually said to me "What? Do you need me to take you to the Psychiatric ward now?"

That was the last time I saw him. I get refills of my prescription at the local drop in clinic as I absolutely refuse to deal with him again.

If you are looking for a Doctor with compassion, empathy, and a rudimentary understanding of the challenges of living with a mental illness, I would stay as clear of Dr. Yap as possible.

My elderly mother (91) lost her kind and compassionate doctor when he retired last spring. Dr. Yap at this time took my mother on as his patient. My mother is very 'with it' for her age and does not have symptoms of dementia or other memory issues. She is still able to keep track of family birthdays, pays all her own bills and can carry on a conversation about the news of the day.. A few months ago she made an appointment to see Dr. Yap regarding her facial spots that were always treated by her previous doctor to prevent the occurance of melanoma. When she arrived for her appointment she was told that she did not have an appointment as she had phoned to cancel the appointment. Her immediate reaction was to blurt out, "What! I did not cancel my appointment." My mother DID NOT CANCEL her appointment but the staff perceived Mom as old and senile and were not caring or compassionate enough to realize that her reaction was one of surprise. Rather than sort the issue out the staff at that point called Dr. Yap who then gave my mom a scolding for being rude to his staff. The staff had erred in cancelling her appointment but no apology was ever given to my mother. The appointment as a result did not go well and Dr. Yap in a rude and uncaring way just poked at my Mom's face and told her she did not have any cancer problems and to see him in 6 months. No compassion for the elderly at this office either from the staff or the doctor!
