Dr. Gowan was unbelievable with me. At first she seems cold but she is actually very kind and cares a lot about her patients. She did make you have an appointment to get your prescription refilled but it was to check in on you. She would always ask me how work, school, relationships and mental health were doing. She isn't a doctor who sees you once and then washes her hands of you - she really builds a relationship of trust and respect. She was very queer friendly and addressed all of my concerns confidently and accurately. Sadly some of the reception that work at Dal are really awful but she more than made up for it. I would suggest talking to her like a regular person - I would always make her laugh and she seemed to appreciate this. She made me feel comfortable in her office and was very queer friendly. She also works collaboratively with other health care providers and got me several stints of free therapy and hypnosis through her professional network. Non judgemental.

I see lots of folks say she is mean. I don't think this is accurate - she is no nonsense and blunt with her medical advice - I never felt like a "chore" to her and she always took her time and was never mad if I came with several concerns. She is not the type of doctor to hold your hand through something but she does walk beside you as you go through it. 10/10.

I consider Dr. Gowan to be an excellent family physician. She takes time to see me as an individual and to listen to me and then offer her advice based on her practice experience and from evidence based research.

Don't expect to be treated by her! The only thing she is concerned with is, how to make more visit out of you so she could make more money! That's truly a shame!
