Not a nice man. He defines that Dr's that spend many long hard years going through med school only to come out on the other side with a bitter attitude with no 'bed side' manner whats so ever. I was stuck with him for years when our beloved family Dr retired, the best day of my doctoring life was when I finally got to move to a new Dr. Once told me I was faking back pain and would not treat it and then forbid me from seeing another Dr in the same office (which I did anyway, another Dr in the same office took me with no problem). Never felt he would look anyone in the eye. Obviously a smart man who may be better served in Emerg where his day to day contact with patients may be more limited.

Loved Dr. B and miss him...altho congrats on his decision to work in Emerg as a surgeon at Southlake. Dr.B was our family doc for over 20 years and never misdiagnosed anything, took exceptional care of us. After battling cancer for over 5 years I am still alive due to him. If anyone gets him now at Southlake due to trauma they will be lucky.

I first met Dr. Barbetta as an Emerg patient in the local hospital 20 years ago. Being a healthcare professional myself, I have high expectations of anyone treating me. Dr. Barbetta therefore went on to be my family doctor of 20 years. His acute clinical care and routine care is beyond reproach. He is also most up to date with current medical developments. When many healthcare professionals "in the know" choose him for their family doctor, you KNOW he's the best. His reception staff are 2 people. The mature one is knowledgeable and can appropriately triage patients, the other is a youngster who does not have any patient relation skills. Don't blame the physician for her. receptionist

Who on earn cares how long you wait! I own my own business and can complete understand how one patient/client can take longer than anticipated! Schedules can run amuck when service it's what one is providing. The most important thing is the quality, compassion and attention of medical care that one receives. I for one, could care less if Dr. Barbetta is running late because he's providing care for the patients before me. I know that he will allow the necessary time to listen, council and provide medical advice for me and my family. For 25 years, Dr. Barbetta has been our family doctor. He treated all of us with kindness, attention, genuine concern whether he was diagnosing cancer or tennis elbow! He will be sadly missed as our GP. We wish him only the best for his new career as a surgeon.

After 17 years under his care (he was our family doctor) I have finally found another doctor! If it weren't for my dying husband I would have left this cantankerous, self righteous arrogant man long ago. He is slow to refer to specialists, doesn't believe in alternative care (like massage) to suppport health and lacks compassion for children and the sick. His office staff are abrupt. case 1:when asked if my appointment for a refill would only take 5 minutes I was warned not to take longer because "Dr Barbetta will be pissed off if you take longer". Case 2: My husband was told to wait 2 weeks for an appointment for pain medication to relieve the agony from his brain tumour. apparently if we didn't like it we could go to the emerg, but "not the walk-in clinics" because that "breaks the agreement you made with the doctor" Good riddance!

Dr. Barbetta is an outstanding physician and surgeon. Our entire family (grown sons & children) rely on his knowledge, skill and empathy. He has never let us down. Last year my husband had surgery for colon cancer and he assisted...he was there with a reassuring pat on the head just as he went under the anesthetic. Another writer indicated his expectation that you as the patient are responsible for your own health...they are right..Dr Barbetta is there to assist, direct you to the best of specialists, provide moral support if needed, and monitor your care in follow up. Who can ask for more...not me. We are so lucky to have this man alongside our family.
