The worst doctor I ever had.
Made me sick with the amount of drugs he prescribed , treating me like a lab rat more than a human being.

After more than half a century of living, and in today's world, there are very, very few folks -- the rare, the exceptional -- that I most might at all bestow such a title as "wise village elder". Yet in Dr. Micheal Sumner's case, the title has been well earned. In retrospect, it was only by both grace and serendipity within one of the lowest points of my life that I happened upon Dr. Sumner for the first time back in 1990. Since then, to me he has gone from doctor (and quite literally life saver) to surrogate parent of sorts, and finally, to perhaps not even realizing mentor over the years. And as I said, he is one of the very few, rare and exceptional individuals in our society who has well earned a title such as wise village elder. This is not only a respectful title, but very much testimony to a man who skills and caring for his patients is head and shoulders above so many others. If you can find a better psychiatrist than Dr. Sunmer, go for it. But I can tell you now after a couple of decades of looking around, I doubt you will. It is perhaps melodramatic in so many cases to say someone is the best. Nevertheless, that is what I will say of Dr. Michael Sumner because I've yet to observe any psychiatrist as observant, as skilled, and as genuinely invested in his patients as "old Doc Sumner" (as I've come to affectionately call him over the years). And that's perhaps the best I can say about all that.

After 15 years of struggling with various severe mood disorders, several psychiatrists, & handfuls of prescriptions, I was fortunate enough to receive a referral to Dr. Sumner. I quite literally owe him my life. He was astute enough to recognize symptoms of mild traumatic brain disorder & arranged for all of the appropriate diagnostics. I am now on about 1/2 the medication because he helped me find the right one for me, unlike other psych who usually just said "it´s not working? Let´s just up the dose/add this or that..." He met me at the lowest point in my life & little more than a year later I am happy & functional & have the tools to continue living this way. I can´t thank him enough for giving me back my life & helping me find myself again.

Dr. Sumner provided me with care after an initial MVA. He has gone on to provide care that has extended into other areas that have been the ongoing results of a second MVA. Dr. Sumner and his staff are considerate, kind and committed to ensuring his patients are progressing and safe. He is a doctor who will ensure your health is always placed at the top of his priority list.

Seemed odd that I had to give the reception / secretary a bunch of personal history / information. Seemed a bit odd that the office is in the same place as a physio clinic, and seemed strange that when i met the guy he told me to leave the door open. I thought these things were supposed to be private between me and the doctor, not the secretary and anyone walking through the hallway. I felt the whole experience was strange. I told him I was taking Aderall even though I really didn't have ADD and that I wanted to get off it, mainly because when it wore off I felt terrible and angry which i am not typically like. He told me life is short keep taking Aderall. I said when it wears off I feel terrible, he told me to take another one when it is wearing off. I told him if I take Aderall at 6:00PM I won't be going to sleep, he told me he could prescribe some other medication to help me sleep. He is an older guy, I think he should have retired about 10 years ago.
