I have seen Dr. Izen for a few years as of the start of my pregnancy with my first child in 2019. I ended up having preeclampsia with my first, and was forced to have an emergency induction, and ended up having an emergency c-section at 36 weeks. Luckily, everything went ok, and my baby was delivered safely, although I went on for about 6 weeks after with Preeclampsia symptoms and hypertension. For my next pregnancy, I was obviously fearful of developing Preeclampsia again, and I asked Dr. Izen at the beginning of my pregnancy what measures we could take to ensure everything goes ok. She turned down my request for additional ultrasounds in the last trimester, overlooked my baby who hadn't grown in 2 weeks at the 31 week appointment, I complained of headaches (an obvious tell of preeclampsia), she told me to take tylenol, and basically undermined and brushed off my concerns through out my entire pregnancy. Long story short, I ended up having a stillbirth at 33 weeks. After the fact and much research, I learned that I should have been followed MUCH more closely (weekly or even more in third trimester as I WAS high risk), should have been prescribed baby aspirin as a preventative measure at week 10, could have had testing of the placenta done, and many other medical measures to ensure my baby was healthy. I learned I was very much high risk for getting preeclampsia again. I'm not sure that she has the knowledge about gestational illnesses, and I should have been referred out to an OB for my second birth.

After my still birth, I did not hear from Dr. Izen. I had to call their office to ask why I hadn't heard from her. I was told she apparently had a surgery of her own and that's why she never contacted me. When I finally went to see her to discuss what had happened, she proceeded to tell me that I "wasn't considered high risk" and that there is "no evidence that baby aspirin works" (not true as I've also come to learn). I ended up back in the hospital 6 days after my stillbirth with severe hypertension, and ended up in intensive care. Never heard from her after that, either. I had an appointment with her scheduled the week I ended up back in hospital, and had to cancel, and still heard nothing.

In general she is a friendly person, however she is much too cavalier when concerns are raised, and did overlook some obvious concerns. She doesn't advocate for you, and she is far too risk tolerant.
There was a lot more she could have done to err on the side of caution. I'm not completely blaming my stillbirth on her, but it's hard not to wonder if there could have been an entirely different outcome with an OB or a different doctor.

It was recently my daughter’s birthday and I am of course thinking back to the delivery and arrival of my baby. I find myself on this site because I searched Dr. Izen’s name as I recall how horribly she treated me during this very important moment in my life. She bullied me and and threatened my with a c section and other interventions to ensure things were moving at her desired pace. She ignored important details in her recount of my situation to feed her interpretation of events. In short she wants you to delivery quickly, without any complications and she will intervene to keep her timeline. It is difficult to forget how she acted and how she treated me.

I think Dr. Izen has been ‘phoning it in’ for a while. I don’t completely blame her for losing her enthusiasm for the profession; the role of the GP a central hub for referrals and lab tests, combined with waiting times and other limiting regulations, is very inefficient. For her it is probably a depleting and boring job. But that’s not an excuse for her lack of follow up and advocacy for her Patients, so like others on this forum, I also gave up and found somebody more thorough and supportive.

Dr. Izen sentenced me to death. I went in for a routine PSA test and rectal exam. She said she did not do rectal exams. What doctor does not do that?? My PSA came back at 4 which is not terrible but is on the high side of normal. No phone call to discuss. No follow up which should have been another PSA test in maybe three months. Nine months later, I went back, knowing I had a problem. Again she said she would not do a rectal exam. Ordered a PSA test and referred me to a urologist to do the rectal exam. My PSA came back at 9. No phone call, no follow up at all. It took three months to see the urologist. She should have looked at the test results and had an emergency appointment with the urologist, but again, nothing. When I saw the urologist I had another PSA test and it was 17 . From 9 to 17 in three months. He did a rectal exam and knew right then there was a big problem. The result of her negligence is that I have metastatic prostate cancer. No cure. I could have had localized cancer and beat it through surgery if she had paid any attention to the lab results. I don't think she ever read them. She should have her licence revoked and never allowed to practice again. She is an idiot.

I’ve had doctor izen for a couple years now and expected her to be as great as my dad had told me she was. As a young person, having questions about my developing body shouldn’t come as a shock and i should be able to leave our meetings feeling relieved knowing my body is growing the right way but i have never felt that relief from any of our visits. I’ve honestly ran out of options and turned to friends and family for advice or answers because there’s no point asking a doctor who clearly doesn’t care and who clearly just loves to cash in her check whenever she can. I feel that her people pleasing personality trait has caused many patients to grow a liking of her despite the obvious red flags shes throwing. on top of that, i don’t understand why her staff are so rude and how they’re able to keep their job. i’m half their age and i sure know how to treat customers when being asked basic questions and sure as heck know that their attitude towards other people wouldn’t slide in the real world which gives me the idea that friendship is more important to my doctor than their patients? can we please keep it professional? you get paid for your hard work stop dismissing patients who keep you rich.

I've been a patient of Dr. Izens for about 10 years. She's very down to earth and makes me feel comfortable every visit, although I have felt like she has brushed me off a few times or didn't really listen to my concerns fully, especially when it comes to mental health issues. I went to the office a while ago and was seen by a resident (very friendly and seemed knowledgeable, but maybe a little overwhelmed?) When I asked to see Dr. Izen after she said no, that she reviews everything with her directly. I understand the process, but if a patient wants to see their doctor they should be able to. I wasn't informed initially that I would be seeing a resident, I came in expecting to see my doctor of 10 years. The staff should be informing patients that they will be seen by a resident and have an option to decline if they don't feel comfortable. Maybe they have a sign posted I didnt notice ?

Dr. Izen has been my doctor now for roughly 6 years. I was sent to her when I was pregnant so I could deliver at BC Women's. I feel very comfortable talking to her and asking for help. My children are comfortable with her. The office staff are very helpful, Ive called a few times just to ask a question or ask if a script could be filled over the phone. I don't ever feel talked down to or unheard. She is a comfortable person for me to go and see and to trust that she will give good advice and she is always willing to check my children when they're sick, even if its just a cold because with mine it has turned into other things and catching it early has been what ha helped my children not suffer too long.

Doctor Izen has helped me through a number of health issues over the past 2 years and has continued to let me down. She is extremely friendly and approachable but she is full of false information and constantly makes promises/research that fall through. She is like that fun person you want to work with but not go see when you actually need help. Trying to find another GP at the moment!
