I have been with her for 3 years now and really have nothing bad to say. She is always friendly and always listens to my concern. She is busy like any family doctor is in Cambridge. She is also apart of a group of doctor who have their own walk in clinic after hrs. EVERY doctor can have bad days and their work loads are a lot. I like her. I can laugh with her and be serious at the same time.

Dr. Thomson has left family practice March 2014 and I am so glad she did. I have been seeing her as a psychotherapist for many years. I usually saw her after she put in a long day of seeing medical patients and I could tell when she felt beaten down by criticism. So many people on this forum are so critical -- I wonder how respectful you treated her. Were you the one who told her doctors are not real people? Of course she is a real person with a very busy, stressful job and with real feelings. . She didn't have time for you? She was working 14 hours a day seeing up to 35 patients a day. This was the clinic policy not her decision. Wouldn't you be stressed with that work load? I see her weekly for an hour at a time. She never rushes me, she listens carefully, she truly cares about me as a person. As I said, I am glad she left family practice -- she is so much more relaxed, and much happier. I thank God every day for this awesome woman being my support and therapist. So all you people who hated her as a doctor you are welcome to see another doctor and I will keep Dr Valerie Thomson to myself. I look forward every week to the time I spend with her. She is the very very best.

Fortunately Dr. Thomson is retiring."First, the receptionist makes decisions beyond her pay grade", "the receptionist to be needlessly combative and rude." "Dr Thomson makes me feel like I'm stupid, and wasting her time each time I go in. . Dr Thomson is a horrible doctor…" "rude arrogant…uncaringstares at computer all of visit making sure to cover herself…doesnt listen.feels as if she forgets you as soon as you leave her office" "This Doctor is very moody and allows it to show. She does nothing to get to know the barely makes eye-contact… does not seem to listen to or wish to discuss any conerns/ideas the pt. may have.

First, the receptionist makes decisions beyond her pay grade. I concur with the reviews that find the receptionist to be needlessly combative and rude. Hope she has insurance to back her "medical" advice. Second, I am very happy that Dr. Thomson dropped me from her roster so that I can get a better physician. I work with physicians through research and there are better options folks. Dr. Thomson is a good example of the "gap" in primary care (especially for older adults). If physicians were accountable to the patient then she would be on the sidewalk. Her salary is your high taxes .. so speak up - you're her customer.

Dr Thomson makes me feel like I'm stupid, and wasting her time each time I go in. I don't go in often and try to avoid it. I'm 41 and have been in about 5 times in the last 15 yrs. What really concerns me - she does not remind her patients of procedures. For instance, I have not had a physical since '99(which I never really thought about), but its in the system - so why did it take up until this year for her nurse to remind me? She doesn't care. Last year I went in for a cyst growing on my ear. She told me to leave it. She said it was a waste of tax payers money. I could not believe it. And this week she just dumped my family from her services. I am actually happy about it - but my parents are upset because they actually liked her. And it comes at a bad time as they have just discovered my mom has cancer - no thanks to Dr Thomson who should have suggested my mom get a colonoscopy years ago, but never did. Dr Thomson is a horrible doctor and I am glad she dumped me. She is useless.

Dr. Valerie Thomson is a wonderful, kind, compassionate Doctor. I have been seeing her weekly for many years for depression. It is not possible to be a Mental Health Therapist without the above attributes. She is as gentle or firm as she needs to be at any given time. If she were as rude and impatient as some people say on this forum, I would have followed through with my suicide a long time ago. She never, ever rushes me out and always asks if I am feeling safe before ending our sessions. She is my guardian angel and life-saver. (literally)

As the doctor walked into the office past my 1 yr old who was walking around, she asked whether she was walking yet or not??? As she hushes my daughter she asks whether she is talking??? Thankfully I have since transferred my kids out of her care but myself & other family are stuck with no other options and wishing we had not wasted the time going to see her. I do not have the time to wait on the phone to book an appt or in a waiting room, my time is valuable as well. And I do not care if you have to miss your lunch, the same as you don't care that I am losing time at work. I go to the doctor rarely & do not wish to be spoken down to, referred elsewhere, rushed out as you cross me off of your list or recommended mental health every chance she gets. Should she not be thankful for us considering if we had another option she would be the 1 unemployed? I call for a broken bone & was told to ice it and call back in 2 wks if still sore! I had to go over her to get a cast months later
