He was great when my youngest had tongue-tie and needed it clipped. The apot was quick, done with minimal pain and my son was nursing again within minutes.
However, when I brought my middle child in (then 5) for ADHD concerns, I was given questionnaires for his teachers to fill out. We went back for a follow up where he met my son for the first time for 10 minutes. I was told he did have ADHD, and then had meds pushed on us, even when I stated that I wanted to try alternatives first, such as accommodations and behavioral therapy. He still pushed them on me, handed me a small cardboard piece with snippets about the meds and no explanation. When I brought up worries about appetite loss, he brushed it off.
I ended up asking my family dr for a new referral elsewhere. The pediatrician there actually explained each med and is working with me to help me son, who does not need meds and is doing well in school

He might be very good at helping solve physical issues children have, but when it comes to developmental, mental health or neurodivergence, I’d recommend you’d try to see someone else. I’m not going to go into details, as I’d like to preserve my child’s privacy. All I can say is I left the clinic crying, feeling awful, unheard, powerless, gaslight and diminished.

I feel so privileged to have my kids be patients at this office. They take my concerns seriously and I know when I call they will do their best to fit me in. Diane in the office is truly the kindest and most understanding. Dr Promnitz is thorough, answers my questions, and never makes me feel rushed. Our appointments are on time. If there is a wait it is minimal. Which is helpful with 3 young kids. We had many respiratory illnesses this winter and were in the office often. Never was I made to feel silly for my concerns, regarding any issues. I am SO grateful for the care my kids receive.

We visited Dr. Promnitz 2 years ago as we suspected an ASD diagnosis for our daughter. We brought our 4 year old into see Dr. Promnitz and after having a 3 minute conversation, including him telling a few jokes, he turned to me and stated, "She laughed at my jokes, she doesn't have ASD." We plowed ahead with practitioners and have paid out of pocket for help with things we knew were 'off' and after a recent ADOS (the Gold standard for ASD diagnosis) we have been told that our child does indeed have a ASD. I just cringe to think of families who don't have the language, the education, the resources or the capacity to keep pushing on when they know something isn't neuro-typical about their child.

If you read this Dr. Promnitz, please augment your training on identifying ASD - it looks different from child to child, and if you have a verbally gifted or attentive listener with sense of humour, it doesn't preclude ASD. https://childmind.org/article/autistic-girls-overlooked-undiagnosed-autism/

If you are a parent, there are other pediatricians in Guelph who are well versed in ASD diagnosis. Dr. Promnitz is great for lots of developmental issues with children, but I encourage you to see someone else if ASD is suspected.

Really enjoyed having Dr. Promnitz as my children's doctor. He is great at communicating to my kids, as well as to me. He ensures that all of us leave with a plan in place. His staff is very accommodating as well.

All 3 of my children are patients of this incredible pediatrician! Dr. Promnitz and he staff have always been so kind and supportive with anything we have ever needed! The knowledge and skill that Dr. Promnitz has is second to none! I have always felt safe with his diagnosis and never ever had to get a second opinion. Best part, my kids think he is hilarious and can openly talk to him!

I will state some facts of our visit, not my opinion of him: We came specifically for developmental concerns for my 6 year old son, and to look further into possible Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and to investigate concerns further. I will highlight 3 points of great concern for the care we received for these issues:
1. One of the first things my son said to me in front of Dr. Promnitz was "I love you Mom" I was told by Dr. Prominitz at the conclusion of our visit that a child with Autism would not say that
2. I was told "you don't want your son to have autism" Again, not going to give my opinion on why that was said, believing it could have come from a place of genuine care, but it is a concerning position to give treatment from
3. I was told that he didn't think my son has autism because he was interacting with the Dr., and a child with autism "wouldn't know I was here"
I don't wish to discourage. I am grateful for caring doctors like him who do much good. I only say this for parents, if you are looking for help with higher functioning developmental concerns which can be more easily missed or masked, look elsewhere. I will say that he referred me to the next step for ASD diagnosis at my request, and told me to get a psych. ed and then come back to see him. But I will not go back to him. The conclusions he made, as mentioned above, are simply not true, and do not display an accurate knowledge the spectrum of of ASD , nor did he give any insight into my concerns even if ASD was ruled out - I felt his mind was made up before he even heard what I had to say.

Terrible. He kept pushing “breast is best” when I continued to cry in his office telling him how much I was struggling. He completely wrote off any concerns I had for my baby and made me feel dumb for even bringing up concerns. He’s also terrible at giving needles to babies. You have to hold your baby in exactly the right way for him. Honestly, I don’t understand why people like him so much. His saving grace is his lovely assistant.

Dr Promnitz is the most amazing doctor that I have had the pleasure of seeing. He is so knowledgeable and was so amazing to my daughter during our visits. My daughter had a horrible impression of doctors from an unfortunate ER visit but now she says she “loves” the doctor. He is truly amazing.
