Great outcome from Dr Allen's Robotic laparoscopic prostectomy and bladder surgery on me!
Everything went as planned and expected...could not have asked for better results or outcome 6 weeks after the surgery...I'm back to my life w/o any restrictions or limitations after this double surgery. I'm 78 years old and have been a patient of North Dallas Urolgy. Dr. Allen & Dr. Lieman have very successfully treated my prostate & retention issues for 20+ years. You cannot do better than this! I am grateful for their exceptional care! I highly recommend Dr. Allen for his straight forward clarity, robotic expertise and great results! Peter Tolk Dallas, TX

I am an RN at a highly prestigious medical center in DFW. My husband needed a urologist. I picked him because of his ratings in D magazine and the fact that he did not work at my hospital. It is hard when you work in leadership of an organization. I value my privacy and prefer to go to a different hospital than the one that I work in. Dr. Allen came highly recommended. He did a great job. Many of my husband's friends had the same procedure and they came out of the hospital black and blue. He must be very gentle, because my husband is not bruised at all. His bedside manner is excellent. He is knowledgeable. I would recommend him highly for any urological condition.

I agree 100% with Richard Z. I have been going to Dr. Allen since 2011. He provided complete information educating me on choices for my prostate cancer. I chose robotic prostate surgery and he was outstanding. It has to be frustrating when you do not have a urologist and have a kidney stone. The staff in Dr. Allen's office has never never been rude to me. I had a very unfortunate experience with a kidney stone about 2 years ago and Dr. Allen saw me immediately. I think one should be careful to judge a doctor and the staff when he or she is not on file as a patient. In such an emergency, ER is the best choice. Yes, I highly recomment Dr. Allen.

I underwent A TURP surgery with Dr. Allen in June of this year, and I feel better than I have in years. I am quite perplexed at the common theme running through some of the more critical reviews. I have found Dr. Allen to be anything but rude, arrogant, or condescending. I agree his demeanor is man-to-man, like two guys conversing over a beer – and that’s just the way I like it. Had any of you taken the time to do a little due diligence you would have learned that Dr. Allen is the most highly respected and sought after urologists in Texas, and has been lauded by D-Magazine as being one of the ”The Best In Dallas.” It also might benefit you to know Dr. Allen is the urologist of choice for many other doctors and medical professionals. I am sixty-seven years old and Dr. Allen is the fourth urologist I have consulted in the last seven years; and what ever surprises my prostate decides going forward Dr. Allen will be my specialist for the duration. He is in fact easy to talk to, is a competent and brilliant doctor, and is an outstanding surgeon... And his Medical Assistant Evette is a gem too!

He gave me a procedure that, according to mayo clinic, is highly recommended NOT to be given to a person with my condition. I'm not sure why he recommended it. Bedside manner is also very gruff.

I'm going to start this review by saying that I've actually NEVER even met Dr. Mark Allen, and after my experience with his office, I would never rely on him to be my doctor. I was taken to the ER and after a CT scan that showed a very large kidney stone, the ER physician called Dr. Allen. They decided that since I wasn't running a fever, Dr. Allen wouldn't come take care of it that night, I would call his office and he would work me in first thing in the morning. I was sent home with pain/nausea meds. The next morning I called and left a message with Evette, his nurse and explained the situation. No returned call. I called a total of 4 times and one of those times I spoke with Angie who was going to help get the message to the nurse. I finally got a call back at 4PM and by this time I was in extreme pain and very sick. The nurse proceeded to tell me that she talked to Dr. Allen and he doesn't know who I am and doesn't recall my case, in a pretty rude tone. The ER doctor stated that he spoke with Dr. Allen on the phone and Dr. Allen instructed me to call the office first thing in the morning and he would work me in. So my question to Dr. Allen would be, why do you take calls as an on call doctor when you clearly don't have the slightest interest in caring for patients. I was admitted to the hospital that afternoon and let the hospital know that they were NOT to contact Dr. Mark Allen because I didn't want him as my urologist. Although I never saw Dr. Allen, I will say that the staff in his office (aside from Angie who was very nice but really couldn't help me without the nurse Evette being involved) is unbelievably rude on the phone.
I don't know what kind of doctor Dr. Allen is, as I was never able to see him, but keep in mind that if you were to have an emergency or urgency and have to deal with this office, it's a very unpleasant experience!!!

I do not understand the negative reviews. Dr. Allen performed my surgery in May of 2017. I was very pleased with the surgery as well as the office visits before and after surgery. I found him to be very knowledgeable and pleasant in his discussions about the surgery. Office staff is also very friendly and helpful.

I find these low reviews very surprising. Dr. Allen has been my urologist the past 4 years, treated my prostate cancer (prostatectomy) successfully (and painlessly!), always answered questions and concerns, his billing is very fair, his nurse and staff very friendly and helpful, and the referrals I've made to him have all been very pleased. He has demonstrated a very high level of updated knowledge and competency. I am in great hands under his care.

He never explained before and after image of Urolift procedure. Nothing helped on his urolift procedure which was just trained/practiced patient body. Saying only right procedure done. That was ended up malpractice as protruded into my bladder per 2nd opinion doctor. Very rude nurse and doctor, with little care about post-op treatment. I would never recommend them to family.

Dr. Allen spoke very rudely to me. He was arrogant and condescending. Told me I needed to have a procedure. It was something that I wasn't familiar with. I asked about it. He told me the name of it again and handed me a brochure. Definitely no bedside manner WHATSOEVER! I literally ended up crying the entire appointment because of the way he was talking to me. I even asked him to try to be kind to me. Patients deserve to be treated with care and compassion. This doctor did not at all seem concerned about my feelings, nor did he want to hear anything about my medical history. When I called to complain and try to see another doctor in the practice for the procedure I needed, the office manager (Brenda) was just as rude as he was. Their policy is that you can not see another doctor in the practice, although she was quick to let me know that they all take each other's calls - isn't this a contradiction? She defended him without even listening to what he had said to me or how he had treated me. She was pretty much yelling at me on the phone. Deplorable treatment at this office! Run - you'll be dealing with your illness/pain and then the heartache from the poor treatment. I think they've forgotten many parts of the Hippocratic oath:
* I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug.
* I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick.
* May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.
