I have been seeing Dr. Mattes for about two years. I have been ill with a thyroid condition (this is followed by his partner, Dr. Bergman) and 3 bouts of pneumonia. I gave up on him today, after waiting for 2 days for him to make an appt for me for an immunologist and a pulmonologist, which he promised to do 3 days ago when I was diagnosed w/ a third pneumonia in 1.5 years. He has added absolutely nothing to my care, has not come up with a single original suggestion, and has been lackadaisical in his approach. Despite my almost constant state of sickness, he basically threw up his hands -- just didn't know what to do with me and basically did nothing. He openly said he didn't know what to do. He shows no sense of medical curiosity in the face of a problem, and no interest in solving a problem if the solution is not already obvious. Often does not return phone calls. If you really need a thoughtful, intelligent doctor, do not go to him.
