I'm an orthopedic surgeon, had a hemangioblastoma in my cerebellum which Dr Vitaz removed 12 years ago. No recurrence, no post-surgery complications or issues. Thanks Dr Vitaz!

Dr Vitaz operated on my 84 yr old mom who had a Anurysems and a subaracnoid bleed. He was very caring not only to my mom ( the most important) he was caring to the rest of us as well. My mom was beating all the odds against her with the help of Dr Vitaz and his PAs. On day 4 my mom started failing and Dr saw it addressed it and ack to surgery we went for shunt placement. We know we have a long road ahead but so far she is pleasent ly confused but has not lost any of her abilities to walk or move arms.

First, I believe these online ratings are skewed towards those that have negative encounters. I was operated on by Dr Vitaz when he practiced in Louisville KY for a brain tumor I had, so my encounter with Dr Vitaz is based on his staff in Louisville Kentucky, and I do not have any information regarding his practice in Michigan. He was always very direct and to the point. Sometimes he was short with his words, but he was friendly and kind. Most importantly he did a great job in removing my tumor. I am still getting surveillance MRI's but it has almost been 7 years and I am cancer free still. I owe Dr Vitaz a great deal. I know my situation may be a bit of an outlier, but I was able to return to my career, demanding as it is both mentally and physically. he is a great surgeon, occasionally of few words, but I'd rather have a capable surgeon who says little than an incompetent one full of charisma.

My mom recently had back surgery with Dr. Vitaz and I have to say I am not at all impressed. First of all, he nicked the dura causing a risk of spinal fluid leakage, which then required mom to be on 48 hours of flat on her back bed rest. At the post op report with him, he didn't even see the need to let me know that he did this, I only found out the next day from the nursing staff. Then under his care, mom had a bad reaction to her pain medications causing respiratory suppression causing her to be put on oxygen and mental confusion requiring a ct scan to rule out a stoke. After a few days of a hospital stay, she was then transferred to Spectrum Health continuing care and he is off on vacation. As she is suffering from excruciating pain in her back, hips and legs we can not get anyone at his clinic to see her. They state that the Continuing Care is now responsible for my mom's care. So...she suffers...To add to all of this, It has been 14 days since surgery and the sutures are pulling and need to be removed, but since he is not in the office, they are making her wait until he is back, which is an additional 5 days that she will have to deal with the pain from the stitches pulling and tearing at the skin. Suffice to say I would never recommend this surgeon to anyone!! I have called his office repeatedly asking for assistance and to try to get relief for my mom's suffering, but apparently they just do not care! When I described shooting pain down her hips, past her knee to her foot, I am told it is most likely due to a urinary tract infection!! REALLY??? You can not be serious?? How can you dare diagnosis something when you refuse to even look at her!!!??? I only hope that you are haunted by the pain and tears you are causing to a 72 year old woman who just wants to get better, get home and live out her life in comfort and peace...Shame on you all!

Dr. Vitaz treated me performed a transsphenoidal surgical procedure to remove a benign brain tumor. He completely informed me of risks involved in the different types of surgery. He is caring, has a sense of humor and takes time to explain the pros and cons of each procedure. His staff is always helpful and available for any phone call. I have never had to wait and usually get in before my appointment time. Coming from out of town they are very considerate to coordinate my schedule for MRI and with other doctors. I highly recommend Dr. Vitaz and his staff with complete and utter confidence because they care about their patients.

Dr. Vitaz saved my life! After a brain tumor almost caused me to die during cardiac arrest and coding, Dr. Vitaz took me as a patient anyway and was able to remove 95% of the tumor Vanderbilt and Dr. Kyle Weaver failed to get out! Dr. Vitaz was at Norton hospital in Louisville, Ky at the time. I was VERY sad to see Dr. Vitaz go, as was all of Norton's hospital I'm sure. I'm happy for him though in his new adventures in life. Dr. Vitaz ROCKS!!!!

Dr.Vitaz was a excellent doctor. He always took the time to listen and explan. I think that mean a lot to their patients to the that communcation when you have a Brain Tumor. The only thing I can complain on, is staff not returning phone calls.I let Dr.Vitaz know this and hopefully it will get better.I no he left to go to Grand Rapid's, I'm hoping to get Dr.Sun as I've heard wonderful things about him.
