Dr. Tong seems competent but he's not good at communicating or explaining problem to the patient. He either oversimplifies it or assumes that people already knows a technical medical terminology. In my last visit, he diagnosed my problem as iritis and prescribed some eye drops. When I asked him what iritis is, he asked me to look it up in Korean dictionary. I'm more comfortable in English than in Korean but if I've never heard of iritis in English, I don't know what makes him think that I would understand a Korean medical terminology for iritis. When I insisted on explanation, he said the inside of my eye was inflamed. I said the inside of eye could refer to a whole lot of stuff. There are many parts to the inside of an eye and I asked him to show which part using a big eye model in his office. He still could not show me on the model and just repeated his original explanation. I have a Ph.D in physics from an ivy league school so I don't think I'm too dumb to understand. The eye drop he prescribed relieved the condition but gave me terrible allergy symptoms making it difficult to breathe and causing flu like symptoms. I emailed the doctor about this but did not get any reply or response back from him or his office.
I have the KP insurance so I'll go back to his office for eye trouble but he could benefit from improving his communication skills with his patients.
