His receptionist is terrible to deal with . She is unable to understand .

Dr Bala is an amazing doctor. His new assistant is another story all together. Rude, does not let people finish their sentence, and awefully condescending tone. Very disappointing. Hope Dr Bala can do something about this

I have been a patient of Dr. Bala for a number of years and he has always been extremely helpful and experienced when dealing with my gastro issues. His receptionist from when I first became a patient was extremely nice, understanding, and communicative. She always had a lovely tone when speaking to her and would always help with what you needed (ie. clarifications/questions, booking appointments, prescription refills, etc.). Unfortunately, his new reception has the absolute opposite tone and demeanor. I called a few weeks ago as I needed a prescription refill and that the pharmacy sending the prescription request would need me to tell Dr. Bala's office to send the prescription to another location (as I moved to another house in Edmonton). I tried to explain this to her and she went on to say "that's not my problem, you need to figure it out". Well okay, I am simply explaining the situation to and telling you what the pharmacist told me. Her tone was aggressive and rude, she didn't offer much help until I called her out and told her I didn't appreciate her tone and that I'm explaining the situation to her. But for her to take the stance she took and say its not her problem is not acceptable, she is in a client facing role and needs to be understanding and take on some responsibility instead of telling the patient everything is on them. Again this morning I called as she left a voicemail saying she needed to move my appointment. So I called and said "Hi Karla, just following up on the voicemail you left me that my appointment needed to be moved." First this she says is "I don't send emails".....Why is that your first instinct. Again I told her I got your voicemail that my appointment needed to be changed and she goes on to tell me I have a procedure at the hospital. Like what? Who's file are you reading? Clearly reading the reviews below other people have had the same experience. Dr. Bala I hope you see this and realize that your receptionist is not cut out for her role, she is ruining the experience for your patients and we are beginning to feel neglected to the point where I dread calling your office for anything. When I see you in a couple months for my appointment I will relay this message to you in person as her behaviour is not acceptable. If she doesn't like a client facing role and answering the phones, I don't know why she accepted this position.

Doctor is thorough and thoughtful. GIves very sensible options ,very practical. Staff is responsive and friendly.

Dr. Bala is an amazing doctor. I have been a patient for 5 years now and have never had a more caring and empathetic doctor. Unfortunately his new office receptionist is appalling. Her demeanor over the telephone is quite insulting, and unprofessional. She has actually sighed when I asked simple questions, and complained to me that she is too busy and has no time for incessant phone calls. I very much miss his old receptionist who was extremely good at her job and lovely to deal with.

Excellent care from the doctor who is very patient and attentive office staff. No complaints. Hospital team is very good also given how difficult the last few years have been.

I've been seeing this Dr for over a year, he is always willing to listen. I love his assistant, she is direct and gets you to answers you need. ⭐️

Been going to this doctor for years for GI issues. Awesome care and explanations always. Never rushed. New office staff is also super friendly and helpful.
