I had Dr Martell for my first Dr in NS after moving from Ontario. I had some reasonably serious health problems that were not being looked after in Ontario. Dr Martell took full control of every problem that I had if not on his own by referring me to the proper specialists. If he was doing family practice again I would sign up with him in a heartbeat.

I happened to read some of the comments posted and feel that I should say something. Dr. Martell was our family doctor for 14 years and was excellent. Really prompt, very frank and always followed up. Patients never felt rushed. While his practice closing was abrupt and it is frustrating finding another doctor (it took us two years), that should not overshadow the excellent care that we received for almost a decade and a half. Best of luck to you, Dr. Martell, in your new challenge. It is very heartening to see that you continue to address the needs of people in Lunenburg County!

I would give a 0 as well. Mom is 93 but healthy, other than losing so much weight to which he says " you look fine". She is like a boney skeleton.) was a patient there and recently found out he had left, a year ago. I said to the receptionist, Why would he not let us know? She said "well he put posters up in the Clinic". I said " My Mom doesn't come for every belly ache she only comes when necessary". Now she is without a doctor, not that he did her much good. and needs bloodworm done to fill her 1 RX of synthroid. The anxiety she is having over not having a doctor is causing her grief. How do you live with yourself?? Dr. Martell!!

I'd give 0 stars if I could! My Grandfather WAS his patient. At 71 he was seeing him and telling him about the weird headaches he was suddenly having. "Dr. Martell" said, "what do you want me to do about it? Go home and take a tylenol!"
Long story short my Grandfather was at the hospital having bloodwork for a different issue when he suddenly passed out. They took him to outpatients where we found out he had 3 BRAIN TUMORS and DOUBLE LUNG CANCER!! He passed away 3 weeks later!!
Thanks Dr. Martell for being so useless that we lost him due to YOUR negligence!!
Someday you will have to stand be for God and answer for all the deaths, negligence, trouble and heartache you have caused!
"Doctor of the year"...what a joke!!

He should be ashamed! He has put peoples lives at risk with his cold, heartless actions.

He is 100% useless and should have never been granted the position he held for so many years. When I informed him about the serious neurological issues I was having his response was "have you tried googling it?" my response was yes, and it told me to see a doctor as soon as possible. Fnck Dr. Martell. This is far from the only criticism I have of the man, just thought I would share this one.

We have been patients of Dr Martell for years. When calling to make appointment to renew prescriptions were told he has left his practice. No notice and attempt to help those at higher risk for continuing care. My husband has alzheimers and I am a diabetic out of insulin. I know we are not the only ones left in the learch, but taken aback on how played out. Wish him well but makes you wonder of the 1400+ patients left what they think of 2016 Recipient Family Physician of the Year

Dr. Martell put our family through misery. He told me to call his office re my husband's care while he was in the hosp. However, he would not take my calls even when he gave me a time to call him. The worst was when he told my husband for me not to call his office any more!....Unbelievable! Poor manners and do not understand how he got to be a doctor. After having dealt with about 7 different doctors during his traumatic 7 months in various hospitals, my dealings, or lack of, were so stressful, I feel sick just thinking about the ordeal with him.

terrible communication to our family after he changed my fathers meds. (after 6 months in hospital and 5 operations and finally got meds regulated to be ready for rehab from loosing leg to cancer) Would not help us, so we had to discharge my father ourselves and take him to another Dr. out of hospital to get him back on meds that worked for him. A month of going backwards and pain while he was under his care in hospital for us and the nurses there!

How fortunate I. am to have Dr Martell as my family doctor. He has cared for myself and husband till his passing with compassion, patience and a wealth of knowledge. I find it difficult to believe that anyone could find his excellent care and ability anything short of brilliant. God Bless You Dr. Martell.
