We had the misfortune of having Dr. Lopez provide care after a miscarriage as the on call OBGYN at a nearby hospital. Dr. Lopez was rude, insensitive to our loss, gave an extremely painful speculum exam, said several things that were extremely odd and upsetting and was unprofessional in his handling of our case. One of the comments that he made was that we were possibly "not even pregnant" in spite of having 3 hcg counts showing pregnancy. After saying we possibly were not even having a miscarriage, he said that prospects for the pregnancy were grim. Before the release papers were signed he returned to give us a 20 minute lecture about using birth control and preventing the possibility of a Down's syndrome baby because of our "advanced age." He stated Down's babies are a burden to parents and society in all cases. It was rude and insensitive in light of the fact we had just suffered a loss. He should have clarified our religious beliefs before pummeling us with his professional ones.
