This is an AMAZING practice , Dr. Simpson is EXTREMELY knowledgeable , personable and simply the best . As I read the 2 bad postings I can't help but think of how many time patients can't own their responsibility to the weight loss process. I have had my Lap Band for 8 years and I admit I don't always do the right things , but come on PEOPLE you want to blame the most caring and passionate surgeon the valley has , the only practice that will take on patients that aren't even his own just to help out the patient, and for the lady that doesn't believe insurance can hold up a procedure you need to do some better research . You obviously have never sat for hours on the phone with one.

The only thing I can agree is that YES you need to do your research and make your own determination once you meet Dr Simpson and his AMAZING staff you will not want to go anywhere other than to Dr Simpson. Better yet you should check out some of the other practices then go to Dr Simpson you will then wonder why you wasted all the time listening to other doctors tell you how unsuccessful YOU will be and you should do something different only to realize you really want to do the procedure you chose not the one they push you into.

Dr Simpson you are the best and all I can say is be glad these 2 are out of your practice >

Thanks for being a great doctor to me !

Not only is the staff absolutely unprofessional, disorganized, rude, and completely inept, my experience with Dr. Simpson was horrible as well. I don't even know where to start. After having surgery done with another surgeon I realized just how horrible my experience was with Dr. Simpson. Not only was his bedside manner terrible he left me in absolute agony for months following my surgery. Now knowing more about surgery I realize that he failed to take out the air used to expand my stomach during surgery. This caused me HORRIFIC pain and I couldn't lay down for several weeks and had mild issue even months after. My concerns were blown off.

Now my lapband eroded into my stomach, I had to have it removed (by a much better surgeon) and the list of complications go on. I just had to have a ventral hernia repair because the lapband also eroded my abdominal wall. This is only the half of it. Literally thousands of dollars later and I have nothing to show for it. I'm completely devastated. What a disappointment this experience was. I would HIGHLY caution anyone from using this surgeon or from getting the procedure in general. Do your research. The doctor I see now told me he takes more bands out than he puts in.

Dr. Terry L. Simpson's response
I am sorry we were not the right practice for you, and that you were one of the two percent with an erosion. The Lap Band is the only weight loss operation that has FDA approval and is the safest of all weight loss operations. It is one of several weight loss surgeries we do - including the vertical sleeve gastrectomy - and we were the first in the valley to do so, years ago.

The key to weight loss is healthy eating and cooking. It is changing lifestyle that is the most important change for successful long term weight loss. This is why we have so many cooking classes and lifestyle change classes. Glad you found your own way and are doing well, and wish you the very best in your future. Sorry we were not the right fit for you.

First appointment the office moved and did not tell me. Dr Simpson did not place the band and was very condescending that I might have an idea as to the issue I was having with the band. He finally listened to me (3rd appointment) and ordered some tests STAT, but did not schedule a follow up or call me with the results. I called the office 2 weeks later and found out he was out of the office for 3 more weeks. Finally agreed the band had to come out. Took forever to get it scheduled (they blamed it on insurance issues, I spoke often with the insurance company, it wasn't only the insurance company but his office also). They had the choice of two places to schedule the surgery, and chose the one that was not contracted with the insurance. They called me a week before surgery to tell me I had to have blood work and an EKG, didn't get the script for 3 more days after I called again for it. He did the surgery, removed the band, no follow up instructions. Office called and wanted to see me the next day, I live an hour away and could not drive.
Attitude of staff depended on the day. Person in charge of scheduling asked me not to speak to anyone else in the office regarding scheduling.
Ended up in the ER a few days after surgery and Dr Simpson told the ER dr I was supposed to be on a clear liquid diet, he failed to mention this to me or my spouse.
Surgery didn't magically make all the issues go away. Was assigned to another dr in the practice (Dr. Morales, I think. And, he was actually nice and competent). They did another test. I called to see what was next and was told if I had the results of that test there was no need to return to his office.
I scheduled and appointment with the Mayo clinic (to find the rest of the issues). I called and faxed paperwork requesting my medical records be sent over. I confirmed they received the request, the Mayo clinic had me sign another request. 3 months later and the records still have not been received by the Mayo clinic. That is ok, they found the issue anyway.
Dr Simpson was very condescending, he couldn't bother to look at my records before I walked in for each appoint to be familiar with me. Grateful to be done with his office.

I love Dr. Simpson and his staff! I was 14 years old when I received the lap band surgery and I am now post op 6 years. He has given me nothing but support and knowledge and I have never had any problems due to his information he made sure to share with me before he even operated on me. Every time I have had a complication (band being too full) he would make sure I was taken care of. It's all about the lifestyle you choose which a lot of people don't understand. His staff is normally helpful and sweet and they are very punctual about getting me back quick since I do live an hour and a half away. I'm very glad I chose him to be my doctor!

We are sorry to read that your experience with our practice did not meet your expectations. Unfortunately, we are unable to identify you as a patient, as there is no name attached to this review. Nonetheless, we are concerned whenever we learn of a negative experience at our facilities.

We care a great deal about our patients, and encourage communication with our office if problematic symptoms appear following lap band surgery. Dr. Simpson provides his personal email, and sometimes even his cell phone, so patients can contact him directly with their concerns. With that said, we are unable to address such concerns, if they are not reported to us.

We invite you to contact our office if you have remaining concerns about your lap band. We are more than happy to explore solutions to any potential issues. Whatever you decide, we wish you the best.

Dr. Terry L. Simpson's response
We are very sorry to read about the complications you experienced following our lap band removal surgery. Please accept our well wishes, and hopes that your recovery proceeded smoothly.

We are, however, surprised and troubled by your reported experience following the removal surgery - specifically that you were not provided with post-operative care instructions. Every one of our patients is counseled on the risks, benefits and likely outcomes of their recommended procedures. We educate our patients on what to expect following surgery, and what steps need to be followed to ensure a full and healthy recovery - this information includes dietary instructions.

There are occasions when Dr. Simpson is not able to perform a lap band removal surgery for one of his patients (emergencies, distance from patient, etc). In these circumstances, Dr. Simpson discusses the patient's history with the surgeon scheduled to perform the procedure, and advises regarding any special circumstances. While Dr. Simpson remains available to answer any questions or concerns, the patient is considered under the care of the surgeon who performs the removal surgery. Any post-surgical instructions would be given by the performing surgeon and the facility where the surgery took place.

If you have any remaining questions or concerns, please contact our office at your convenience. Our door is always open to our patients - especially those who may have concerns about their care.

I had my surgery with Dr Simpson and love him as a Dr. When I met with Greg for my consultation he didn't seem to be to happy to be meeting with me at the time. He was in a hurry to get the consult over like he was on a schedule to get get the meeting done and made me feel like I was only a number to him. No real eye contact. Would love to come in for follow-up but after reading on Facebook that the office has moved to Scottsdale that is a long commute for me to make with my tight schedule, kids and kids activities. It was hard enough driving to 19th and Maryland... But with the way I was treated by office staff no one has probably even noticed that I haven't been in for a visit.. Cause to the staff everyone is just a number.. No one does anything to reach out unless Doc tells them to reach out to those who may have fallen off the band wagon!!

Dr. Simpson, Jamie (surgical assistance), and entire staff Irma & Greg, have made and continue to make my whole experience nothing but pleasant. They have not treated me like a number or just another weight loss patient but with the abundance of TLC from day 1. They make themselves available to me 24/7. Dr. Simpson has retuned all my phones, when I needed him after hours. All my questions and concerns are immediately addressed. I truly appreciate you all and will forever be grateful.
