I had the misfortune of being referred to Dr. Joseph Curletta for relief of symptoms from fibromyalgia. Dr. Curletta adopted a hostile and demeaning attitude almost from the start of my visit, I’ve never experienced this type of callous indifference by a "caregiver." I do not put myself in a judgmental role when it comes to evaluating the treatment options offered by a doctor in this type of situation. However, I do expect to be treated with compassion, respect and at least a feigned interest in understanding my physical, mental and emotional state. Dr. Curletta exhibited none of these characteristics of a caring physician. He seemed much more interested in getting me out of his office and arranging for a return visit that he could bill to Medicare. As he was leaving the room, and with his back toward me, Curletta sneered “Am I going to find anything else in your sample?” Rather than turning around to face me and considerately making sure that I had listed all of the possible controlled substances that might appear in my lab results, Curletta seemed to feel comfortable with posing the question in the form of this snide remark. When the time came to meet up for my return visit, Curletta didn’t even exhibit the common courtesy of explaining the rationale for his suggested course of action or open himself up to my feedback, questions and discussion. The return visit was simply a billing opportunity for him to which he assigned his physicians assistant. I described my reaction to Dr. Curletta to his PA and she did not seem to be surprised to hear of the dismay that I expressed to her in this regard. Apparently, Dr. Curletta has numerous other patients who wouldn't qualify as "fan boys." I have never written a public review of a doctor before (and I am now 71 years old), but I feel that it is important to warn the general public of the risk that they run if they seek any type of caring, sympathetic and/or useful medical care from this so-called medical doctor because, in my opinion, he is the worst kind of money-grubbing and emotionally numb individual whom I have ever had the misfortune to meet in any of the caring professions.

Surgery problems not explained. Rush to schedule surgery. I got the real sense that filling his surgery schedule was more important than care. Surgery went real bad. I ascribe no blame; stuff happens. However, the doctor never contacted my wife, never tried to explain why I was the shape I was in. I was in ICU for 5 days and doctor never spoke to my wife. . After spine surgery I went home developed headaches. I called to see if there was something besides overthecounter medicine that could be prescribed. Staff never returned calls. I did get through once but staff person did not want to speak to me because I was not friendly. Come on, sick people are calling a pain doctor, have some compassion and patience. On-call doctor suggested I go sit in the emergency room on a Saturday night rather than try to prescribe something. Sum total: Below average quality of care, concern and service.
