Dr Du Muelenaere gave me my life back, twice! And I will be seeing him a third time shortly. He replaced my c5/6 disc in 2019, and when it shifted 9 months later and I was back to horrible pain (super rare- he’d never seen it do what it did) I was back in his OR within a few weeks having it removed and the site fused.
He is punctual, practical, and has a wonderful sense of humour. His approach to medicine is to the point, and precise. He is a man of few words- he will not be the shoulder to cry on, but I very much appreciate that. His job is to correct issues in the body, not be the psychiatrist to help you work through the emotions. He answers all questions well, though will not overly elaborate to convince you one way or the other, which again I appreciated.
With my new issue, the diagnosing dr in Winnipeg told me there was nothing to be done and I would be in pain the rest of my life. I’m 42.
I requested my imaging to be sent to Dr. Du Muelenaere for a second opinion. He told me there DEFINITELY is something the can be done to reduce the pain and although the wait has been long (thanks to healthcare, not Dr’s fault) I have the opportunity to have pain reduced again, thanks to a dr who is knowledgeable and willing to help.
I’ve heard the stories of “poor bedside manner”, but have never experienced anything but him being professional, respectful, and caring. Perhaps the people claiming he was rude were not respectful or were rude in the first place. I can only imagine the garbage he has to deal with from patients thinking they are “entitled” to his care. This man is a gem in his field and i am truly grateful to be in his care again. I dread the day he retires!

I had a bad accident after a night out a couple years ago and ended up severly breaking both bones in my arm. Anyway Dr dr muelenaere was on call and did a great job with repairing such a bad break, with metal plates and screws. I was told by all family and friends that i would have pain for life in this arm, its perfectly fine i barley notice it was ever broken. Thank you Dr for helping me i have a normal life now

After 15 years of ongoing chronic pain Dr. De Muelenaere performed a double laminectomy, double discectomy, and spinal fusion in 2005. I don't regret it one bit and I've had no major issues since. Some of you complain about his bed sidemanner but sorry he's not your friend and has other patients to deal with. I highly recommend for spine issues, can't comment on other parts of the body.

Red Flag‼️ Best advice to all Manitobans - insist on a referred to a sub specialty trained orthopaedic surgeon before enduring a surgical procedure. DeMuelenaere is a “General ortho surgeon”. The difference is in the expertise, skill, and training of a sub specialty trained surgeon.
My experience began in the ER Department and De Muelenaere was the ortho surgeon “on call”. My “severe shoulder fracture” + “wrist fracture” same arm was poorly repaired by De Muelenaere, but I now know, Manitoba has many sub specialty trained shoulder surgeons available in Winnipeg for “severe”fracture repair. A sub specialty surgeon has added years of training and experience in shoulder surgery (eg. of other specialties are: foot and ankle ortho surgeons) which lead to improved patient outcomes - and the end result is the best chance for optimal repair / function of a limb (arm) after surgery. Caution warning ⚠️
