Dr. Jonker is an excellent communicator. He is open to observations and information from the patient. I have great confidence in his knowledge and compassion for my cancer diagnosis (esophageal cancer with Lung mets).

I don't enough room here to write all the positive things I would say about Dr. Jonker, and his main nurse Marta Chirip. I agree with most of the posts here, even the ones who say he has expertise, but seems clinical. In my experience he cares deeply for his patients. I don't know how people like him face people who are dying everyday, yet still find the mental and emotional energy to keep putting everything they have into helping them, day in day out. He tells you the truth, even when it isn't what you want to hear, but he applies his expertise to help you to the best of his ability - and his ability is very high. Here is a shout out to everyone facing cancer - stay strong, you are not alone.

Dr Jonker is one of the most amazing physicians I have ever known. This man goes beyond for his patients. He is so admirable and role model for all physicians. He is funny but serious at the same time. He is so knowledgable and knows every single GI clinical trial. He is one of the smartest GI oncologist mostly because he has dedicated his life to GI oncology. Working with Dr Jonker makes me want to be a better physician for my patients.

I am extremely lucky to be under the care of such a knowledgeable and caring individual. He is very honest and forthright, answering every question I have. He even possesses a good sense of humor which contributes to his bedside manner.

When I first met Dr. Jonker, my impression of him was not good. In fact, I positively hated him, but to be fair, he was the poor bugger who had to tell me I had terminal cancer. I struggled to like him. I even phoned the Director of Med Onc and begged for another doctor. This man convinced me that Dr. Jonker was the best and that it was in my best interest to stay put. So, I did.

Six years in now and I wouldn't trade oncologists for anything. I am very glad that I made the effort to put my emotions aside and trust in his knowledge and skill. There is no one better suited to my complex case. We meet on a regular basis, he always gives me the impression he's just read my file and knows my case in detail, we discuss (dare I say collaborate) my care, and he patiently answers my many questions--even the kooky "I just read this on the Internet" variety.

The only negative feedback I have is for the hospital itself, who in 2015 ended its Patient Designated Nurse (PDN) program. Utterly stupid move. The people paying the price for removing this valuable program are the patients and the physicians (and any nurses who may have been left without work). I loved my PDN and I loved having a single point of contact. When I call now, I always get someone different (someone who has no clue who I am) and that is hugely frustrating. I am put on hold or told to call back while they go familiarize themselves with my file. Sometimes I never get a callback.

And, Yes, sometimes Dr. Jonker is late to the appointment, but have you SEEN how many patients are in the waiting room?! Its rare and never a problem for me. Just plan your day accordingly.

Thank You! I'm doing great because of you. And, unlike some of your patients, I've always appreciated the truth.
