I have known Dr. Saunders for over ten years now. This doctor is what the others in Nova Scotia in his specialty need to take some notes from, and quickly!
This Doctor is an actual relatable human being. The kindness and above and beyond quality is something I haven't seen in a very long time. Certainly not in the Maritimes ever.
This Doctor is something special. As per the negative reviews below, please keep in mind that Dr. Saunders specialty is in Addictions Treatment and Opioid Agonist Therapy, so please understand that some of these negative reviews are coming from people that
A. Are dealing with a methadone clinic and the doctor is to abide by certain protocols and government guidelines
B. Are simply not getting what it is that they want. (Benzoazipines etc.)
C. Under the influence and that is exactly what the Doctor is trying to reduce and combat.

Dr. Saunders takes the time to listen to your medical complaints and also takes the time to to get to know you as a person - more than just a patient. I have found him very helpful in prescribing what is right for me as an indivudual and not the latest "quick fix". I found him to be compassionate and forthcoming - an excellent doctor and one I will continue to see.

My experience with Dr. Saunders has been excellent. He has a wonderful human quality which comes with a more laid back relationship, complimenting his extensive knowledge and professionalism as a physician. His dedication to the people in our community is evident in the individual attention he gives each person he meets. He was there for me on the worst day of my life and helped me turn it into the best day of my life. I am sure that someone had an unfortunate wait due to my needs that day, but it saved me...and that's how great doctors work.

This guy is lazy. There is no other way to say it. If you want something special like a COMPLETE physical for a job go somewhere else. It took my daughter three times to get him to cover the stuff on the list, and two weeks wait in between appts. Lucky the job was two months ahead, or she would have been too late. I had him for many years, and it was totally frustrating. I changed doctors after that final straw.

It was difficult to get in to see Dr Saunders (and any of the docs in the clinic) before the clinic changed late 2009, but it’s very different now. Dr Saunders is back, and my family is staying with him. Appointments in my recent experience have been easy to get (same day! Wow!) as long as you can go in the morning. By the end of the morning the wait can be long, but I don’t mind if I know he’s not going to rush through MY appointment. This is a doc who reads charts and knows the best docs to refer. He listens to my kids and I never feel rushed. In fairness to all viewpoints, my husband has found him a bit too thorough, but then he hates to see a doc!

Wait times are horrible! Second time had to wait more than an hour for a check up... this should be looked at. If it is because they are paid by visit maybe someone should look at paying by day and they wouldn't schedule their time so thin that when they have someone with a bigger issue the others have to pay. Actually like Dr. Saunders or I wouldn't stay there but think they should warn people when booking that there could be a considerable wait time.

Dr Saunders is a very good Doctor. He even made a house call for my husband who could not get to the office. This was on his way from work. He is always very polite and listens. I have alot of respect for this Doctor

Conservative in his practice with respect to considering new/alternative treatments. Seems to treat patients like he's flipping burgers, without exploring all the options to help a patient. Perhaps he has a secure understanding of the limits of his knowledge-meaning it is good that he provides referrals. Perhaps he is a victim of health services in this province. His heart is in the right place and he is obviously a good person. I think his professional skills could grow in the area of basic counselling skills-comes across as judgemental at times. It seems that when he is stressed himself he falls back on reactive black and white thinking, as we all do. I recommend he see the movie The Good Doctor. Is there a reason why he always runs late? Is this a problem with the health care system in Canada? He is unable to give the time to people they deserve. He could tell clients the time available, so that they can book accordingly i.e maybe they need two appointments in a row

Wait times are challenging. A physician can't know how long they'll need to counsel a patient, but when I do get in, Dr. Saunders gives me the time I need and makes me feel comfortable asking all the questions I have. When I lived in Ontario, you were expected to only ask about one health issue at a time - this is not the case with Dr. Saunders. I call before leaving for my appointment and if he's running late, I'll come later instead of waiting in the office. I think he is a good, caring physician and my family will continue to see him. Your health isn't just up to the doctor you see, it's up to you to inform yourself as well and ask the right questions.

Initially my family went to this doctor when we moved to the area. He could not have been less interested in myself or my children. He was quick to refer a basic developmental question concerning my child. It's difficult to rate his knowledge as I didn't wait around to test it.
