After reading the reviews here, I feel that I just dodged a bullet. I went in for a consultation and while the technician was pleasant, something seemed "off" with Dr. Marengo. Right off the bat, he asked if I just wanted to pull my remaining teeth and get dentures. When I asked him why he was asking that, he said that many people came in and just didn't want to fool with their teeth any longer and get dentures, which I thought was pretty lame -- especially since I had made it clear from my very first phone call to my conversations with the technician who had conversed with him prior to him talking to me, that I wanted to look into getting implants for some missing back teeth. I thought he had a pretty cavalier attitude about pulling teeth. Every dentist I've ever gone to wants to preserve as many teeth as possible -- not pull them unless there is a very good reason for doing so, something that Dr.Marengo never even attempted to present evidence for. When I called later to express my concerns, a person at the front desk "read" my xrays and defended what he had suggested. I have no idea who she was other than that her job was to answer the phone, not diagnose patients, so I thought that was pretty odd too. The next day, the technician called and tried to make excuses for that and some other things he had said, but none of it rang true. When she said that I should have trust in my dentist, I agreed with her and said that I did not have trust with this dentist, so cancel my next appointment. I'm not sure what's going on there, but after reading other less-than-stellar reviews, I'm glad my radar detected something was amiss before any work was done.

I tried to make an appointment many times but could never get in. Finally, got dental insurance and I could get in. I had a problem so I went in and instead of seeing the dr outright I was seen by the hygienist and X-ray's taken but, the dr didn't come in until the last few minutes said...oh yes there is a problem but he couldn't do anything that day and I could be seen next week. I sort of said..ok and I took the antibiotics. Next week came and I was so happy...the tooth was a mess (in fact several teeth were a mess) BUT...the appointment was for an hour and was for a financial interview where they "explained" what my insurance would pay and my "options" for paying the rest. I needed to sign sheets of paper to promise I would pay for it and never saw the dr even in the hallway! I needed to wait another week before I actually was seen by the dentist. I came in and explained that my case was a dental emergency because I needed there to be no infection prior to chemotherapy that was waiting on my oral health to be completed. By that time I was actually in tears because I brought up the cost and he told me that there was so much work to be done that it was just expensive. Beside that, he didn't get into that part of the practice (finances) and he really didn't know about all of that stuff or the final prices. Really? I told him to just pull one tooth to get rid of the infection..but, instead he worked on a completely different tooth and then he "ran out of time". It was near lunch. I literally begged him to take the few minutes it would take to full the tooth, but he declined. Oh...and just before the procedure I told them that I wanted to use nitrous. I was told that it would be ninety dollars for the first 30 minutes and then the same every 30 minutes thereafter and did I want to still use it. Knowing how what the procredure was (root canal), what it would feel like and how upset I was by then, I said yes. The bill for the nitrous was $300. Before I left the office they quickly gave me another financial piece of paper to sign to make my 3 "easy" payments over $530. a month for 3 months to include the nitrous. I explained to them that I had NEVER been charged for nitrous for anything but oral surgery. That maxed my dental insurance and I didn't get the service that I signed up for. In my opinion this office is mostly interested in the money. If you ask questions or think outside the box then you are a problem patient and they really aren't interested your care. Interestingly , while I was in the office I noticed that they were giving away a 42 inch HD TV for people who sign up to leave a review of the office and dentist on their web site. I am guessing I won't be "winning" the TV. I will leave the decision to use this office for your dental needs up to your senses. I actually knew him before and was impressed...but, something must have happened. As a healthcare professional, I always considered the patients needs far above their financial abilities. I have since found another dentist who actually cares about my situation.

Never on time yet, call and email and text you so that you the patient won't be late. Understanding that an estimate is just that, an estimate, but if you do these procedures for a living and you estimate cost of said procedures for a living you shouldnt be & 350.00 off! Not happy when I recieved the bill. I like Dr. Marengo's concept of this practice but his office and clinical staff are hired on, hmmm let's say I dont think you need experience of any kind so the exacution is not there.

I have been a patient at Dr. Marengo's office for several years and earlier this year made a hygiene appointment for a simple cleaning. I was told that I would need an X ray and the probe procedure to check on the gum pockets depth. I advised them that I only wanted the hygiene appointment. I was then told That it was their policy to do X rays on a yearly basis. I cancelled my appointment and advised that I would go someplace else. I did go in and discuss the situation with DR. Marengo's secretary who advise that this was a State of Kansas requirement and that hygienists could loose their license as a result of not doing the X Rays and probing procedure. That's of course not so. The procedures are merely designed to collect additional fees from the customer and from the insurance company as the case may be. I prefer not to do any further business with organizations that tell me things that have no basis of fact. I was also told that the office manager would be calling me about this issue and situation and that has yet to happen.

After receiving services I received my insurance statement that showed the contractual amount I owed to the dental practice was drastically lower than what I had paid with their "estimate." Having this occur at previous dentists, I called to get a refund. They called back two weeks later saying the insurance just settled and I actually owed more. This made no sense considering the information from the insurance company. The office explained that there were services not covered under the insurance that they did not submit (including an electric toothbrush that I was specifically told was included as part of the service.) I disputed the charges based on the fact that no one explained the additional services were not covered to give me the option of whether I wanted the services (I would have told them to keep the toothbrush and probably cut out other needed services that they are just using for higher profit levels.) Poor service, no accountability, and deceptive billing practices.

I had visited Dr. Marengo's office twice for routine cleaning, which Dr. Marengo approved. On Christmas Eve morning my tooth broke. I called Dr. Marengo to get emergency service. He didn't call me back, his partner didn't call me back, and the office manager didn't call me back. After leaving 3 messages on his pager, he finally called me back. His answer: mix water and flour together to make a paste and come in on Monday (4 days later). Never offered to meet me at his office. Because I didn't know another dentist, I went in. After 3 tries at crowning the tooth, they finally got to fit. Additionally, the temporary kept falling off and the assistant couldn't get it cemented correctly. Because it spent so much time OFF my tooth, my gum tissue grew over the space, requiring packing that was painful. Also, while Dr. Marengo was drilling my tooth he repeatedly commented on the Price is Right which was playing on the TV and gossiped about staff and patients with his assistant.
