An exceptional surgeon taking his time to thoroughly explain all aspects of my total knee replacement surgery. The robotics that assist the surgeon are state of the art. The staff handled all details of the pre-op preparation including working with ProScan to schedule my CT 640 scan. Dr. Dounchis was available at all times to address any of my questions regarding the surgery and recovery. Dr. Dounchis does not use staples or stitches to close the surface of the incision, allowing me to shower immediately after surgery. An exceptional surgeon in every regard.

WOW....how can this guy not get 5/5 every time? He is smart, and extraordinarily gifted physician. He replaced my prosthetic knee, and out of my three knee replacements, this one has been by far the easiest.

My only regret is I did not have him do my other two knees.

Two more things. The staff is fantastic, you get a real feeling of teamwork around them, and they all like and respect Dr. Dounchis. Secondly, they run on time! That is a big deal for me, and they deliver. I wish there we more like him.

Throughout my 44 years living in Naples I’ve undergone 4 hip replacements & 1 full shoulder replacement and rotator repair. Dr Dounchis throughly explained my hip replacement procedure & what to expect post surgery. Let me say that Dr
Dounchis is without a doubt the best surgeon that I’ve had the good fortune to perform a hip revision replacement. In Naples it’s difficult enough to find a surgeon that would replace a hip that was over 20 years old. Post surgery was let me say I awoke in the recovery room thinking when are they going to take me in for my surgery. No pain , swelling or numbness. I was taken to my room and believe me that I was walking a minimum of one mile with a walker. I have no problem recommending Dr Dounchis for joint replacement , remember this I’ve had three previous hip replacements all with pain , swelling , infection and a down right difficult recovery. You can believe me or not Dr Dounchis was heaven sent!

A year and a half ago I had elective total hip replacement with Dr. Dounchis. I was not yet 60 years old. The day after surgery I asked him how it went and he stated it went well, no complications.
Imagine my shock when I saw a cable wrapped around my femur when I finally saw my X-rays about 8 months after surgery. According to him, this cable is a “routine” part of total hip arthroplasty. Numerous surgeons as well as the manufacturer of the cable have since told me that the use of a cable is NOT a “routine”part of a hip replacement . One surgeon told me-“in 15 years of a very busy practice I have only used a cable twice.” So... if you would like a cable wrapped around your femur as part of a “routine” total hip replacement, Dr Dounchais is your man. My recovery was long and painful. I made numerous calls to his office to complain of pain and difficulty with walking and was repeatedly told the exact same words each time by his main nurse-“What do you want us to do? Go elsewhere.”
It is still difficult to simply get dressed each morning. Walking my dog is now a chore versus the joy it once was.
If you are contemplating surgery with Dr Dounchis I would STRONGLY advise that you follow the advice of his nurse and-“Go elsewhere.”

Dr Dounchis operated on me on 1/30/2017. I had a total hip replacement (robotic surgery). He is a brilliant surgeon and did a wonderful job. It took me a year to make the decision to have the surgery since I have never been in a hospital before and truly had the fear of the unknown. Dr. Dounchis was caring and provided answers to all my questions. A big concern of mine was I have severe cold urticaria and he and his surgical team took special care that I did not react to the cold operating room conditions. His follow-up in the hospital and post-op appointment were very informative and much appreciated. Dr. Dounchis is well respected in his profession. I was in a rehab center for 19 days and at least half of the other patients I met had Dr. Dounchis as their surgeon and all were satisfied. God Bless him and continue to keep his surgical hands in perfect condition!

Absolutely the worst care I've ever received. I've had knee problems since I was 10 and seen many orthopedics/surgeons as well as worked as a medical assistant and scribe for one for 8 months, so let me tell you this guy is the worst of the worst.
His bedside manner is non-existent. Didn't interact with me at all during my physical exam, didn't explain my injury, didn't explain what my physical limitations should be, didn't explain my x-rays, didn't ask about my daily physical activity or history of problems with the knee, only ordered an MRI at my request since every other time I've massively dislocated my knee I typically have some sort of soft tissue damage, did not outline any form of treatment plan to prevent this from happening again, didn't ask if I had any questions, and rushed out of the room so quickly I didn't even have the time to give him a piece of my mind.
Seriously, the physician visit from start to end took 6 minutes and he just dictated to his scribe without saying a word to me. I spent more time and had a better conversation with the x-ray technician than I did Dr. Dounchis. Absolutely shameful behavior from a physician. Thankfully I'm used to these type injuries and a medical student so I at least know to advocate for myself and insist on better care but I can only imagine the hundreds of people he has let slip through the cracks.
VERY obviously he is in this for the money to see as many patients as possible and not actually invest any time or energy into someone's quality of life.
Also based on my previous orthopedic experience his exam was incomplete to say the least. He did a few basic stability tests, didn't ask about any tenderness along the joint line, didn't watch me walk, and did no kind of comparison to my uninjured leg. Having seen multiple other orthopedics in my life as well as assisted in hundreds of physical knee exams to say he cut corners is an understatement.
