The first thing Dr. Valamanesh said to me upon entering the room was "What are your thoughts on bariatric surgery?". No asking me what I was there for, no asking me about what actions I have tried, no suggestions on tests he might run. Every time I tried to tell him about my history, my symptoms, and the things I believe are affecting my metabolism and sleep patterns - Dr. Valamanesh interrupted me, told me there is no way ___ could cause so much weight gain, and steered the conversation back to bariatric surgery. When I said, "Why aren't you ordering bloodwork to check my system?" He said, "Yeah yeah, I will run bloodwork." I told him I had some done in January for my annual physical, including fasting blood sugar, thyroid function, and cortisol levels. He perked up and said, "Great, then we don't need to do any blood work until your pre-op appointment." When I started crying and said to myself "Why won't anyone help me?" (have been passed from doctor to doctor) he said, "I AM trying to help you." and pushed surgery again. When I told him about my psychiatric problems, he reassured me that he knew surgeons that would overlook that when writing to the insurance company for authorization. When I pointed out that my medicines make me very thirsty and with surgery I would not be able to drink much, he waved it off. Though illegal, I am wondering if there is some sort of kick-back arrangement made between Dr. Valamanesh and some surgeons.
