I do not trust him after my appointments with him. I am a 49 year old woman who was diagnosed with cervical cancer at 27 years old. I had a few procedures including endometrial ablation before having a full

hysterectomy with my family doctors referral to a gynecologist. After a few years my family doctor who was my doctor since the age of 5 years old retired.
I ended up in Guelph general hospital
emergency a year to a few years later.
I was referred to Dr Adam Schector and made an appointment to see him. I was sent fur Blood work by him. When I arrived to the lab they asked me if I was aware that he was
drug testing me? I was not aware. I was never in my life a drug user. So this was very confusing to me.
I ended up leaving Guelph to help take care of my mother in law who had been

diagnosed with Alzheimer's just before COVID. My husband and I left Guelph and moved to Pembroke in order to take care of
My mother and father in-law opposed to them going into a home in the middle of a pandemic.
While in Pembroke I had to make several visits to the emergency. When they searched him they found nothing for whatever reason. I had sever bleeding from my bowels and was sent for an endoscopy as well as a colonoscopy. I was diagnosed with diverticulitis after all those tests.
We ended up moving back to Guelph because I couldn't be away from my children and grandbabies any longer. When I booked an appointment to see Dr Schector again after not seeing him for almost 4 years he gave me a requisition for blood work again and AGAIN he was testing me for drugs?? I am almost 50 years old and a grandmother of 2 beautiful grandchildren. All my children and both my grandchildren lived with myself and my husband in our 3600 sqft home we had built when we found out our first grand child was going to be born with a cleft lip and palate. Our beautiful daughter in law was just going to graduate from the U of G right before he was to be born and we knew they would struggle financially.
We ended up all living together including our 2 younger sons. Eventually along came Madeline our beautiful grand daughter 2 years later.
I went to see this doctor again since I didn't have a family doctor and was not well at all. He again gave me a requisition for blood work and again checked off the portion to have me tested for drugs.
The most messed up thing about all this is that I have never in my life used drugs!! I have lived in my own since my 16th birthday and have excelled in life. It was when I had cervical cancer and was in severe pain after having had chemo and radiation that I was prescribed pain medication (oxycontin) for 3 weeks.
It is my belief that this so called doctor had to believe that Doctor's around the world had prescribed more then the recommended dose of these pain meds and was using his patients to prove it and gain some kind of notoriety. It's either that or he was testing his patients to make sure they weren't abusing the meds he prescribed them to cover his own reputation.
Either way, I went to him 6 months ago with concerns for my own health fir serious reasons and he handed me a requisition for multiple blood tests and also to drug test me without my knowledge.
This is not legal or ok with me. How do you trust a doctor with your life if he looks at you and pretends to be worried about your health but on the other hand lies to your face?? How are we supposed to trust our doctors if they behave like this?

Excellent Dr. I waited for over a year for my son to be seen, but definitely worth the wait The Dr. has a lot of knowledge and I never felt like we are being rushed. Very thorough Dr. You might wait a bit in the waiting room but it's for a good reason. I can't comment too much on receptionist as she seems stressed at times but I omit this fact as long as I am taken care of. Thank you Dr. Shecter! The Barry's .

What a terrible secretary. She makes patients life very difficult. As previously noted I also hope Dr.Shecter is reading the reviews on his secretary. Pure nightmare with her. Very mean and evil.

HORRIBLE RECEPTION! AVOID AT ALL COST. talk directly to Dr. Out of politeness I left a that I will be seeing nurse practitioner not for pap but other issues. I walk on for appt.sue says she canceled and is trying to argue with me that the VM was to cancel. She gave me some other story that she us not sure if Elysr can see me for other issue as she is not a dr. Then she blindly booked apptw the nurse stating not sure if she can see yo. Disgusting behaviour.i hope dr is reading these reviews as he is a great dr but Sue is horrible!

So fed up with Dr Shecter's secretary. Rude. Dismissive. Treated my daughter with mental health issues like she was a waste of time. Wouldn't give her an appointment just said to call the pharmacy. Dr Shecter is a good doctor, but getting past the phone is upsetting.

Terrible response from secretary at front desk - makes it impossible to communicate with the doctor and is not helpful - very uncaring and should not be dealing with sick people. The negative reports I have read re the receptionist is exactly what I have experienced. The doctor is great , if one can get past the receptionist he has.

Love this Doctor. Was with a different family practice and switched over as Dr. Shecter was starting up his practice a few years ago. Absolutely loved his first receptionist. She was warm, compassionate and caring (unfortunately left to start a business). Would have to agree with others here that the current receptionist is very different in presentation and demeanour. And it’s really quite difficult to get through to the front desk to book appts or for other inquiries. Best chance is first thing in the morning. This experience aside, we plan to stick with Dr. Shecter as I think he’s a truly wonderful GP and has great knowledge and expertise (never holds off on referrals to specialist and always support any special needs or requests for accommodations if pertaining to health).

I respect and trust his judgment and have been able to move some family members with complex medical histories and needs to him for care. Everyone is pleased thus far. His ER experience also makes him very quick to act in face of challenging situations.

I’m hopeful that things with reception will improve as we shift out of COVID. Also find that she is more receptive when extra kind, though it shouldn’t be this way (specially as people call in difficult situations and states).
