If you don't mind your first appt being cancelled 2.5 hours after arrival because of weather. Your 2nd appt waiting 3.25 hours with no reason given. Day of surgery in the holding pen for 4 hrs again no reason given why so late. No follow up with her in the hospital after surgery. A year later had to have a C.T of abdomen and the Internist wanted to know who did the hernia repair as they evidently had no idea what they were doing. Need a revision done, to afraid to have it done now. The only place now the Internist wants the revision done is Cleveland Clinic or Ohio State as it will need to be an open procedure. I deal with daily pain. It is a shame as Knox Community Hospital is a great little hospital. Sad as it is obvious this surgeon does not care about time or outcome.

I had to have a thyroidectomy and she was my surgeon. When I woke up from surgery, my mouth was so crooked my husband thought I had had a stroke! If she had come in to see me the day after my surgery (like others have done for my other surgeries) she would have seen how crooked my face was. I could have told her that I could barely swallow and that when I did swallow I was choking.

When I saw her two weeks later for my follow up, she was 2 hours late to the appointment and no one came in to tell us why or what was going on. When she did show up she never apologized or even acknowledged that she had been late!?

She said my crooked mouth was due to low calcium - even though right after surgery, my levels were taken and were fine and the day of the follow up appointment they were the same! My mouth was crooked because of a bruised nerve. I understand this is a risk from surgery with any doctor but that was not addressed by her at all! She blamed my calcium.

I was still having issues swallowing and my voice didn’t sound right. I was also coughing all of the time and she said that all of that was normal. I told her I had experienced heart burn everyday since surgery and then she told me I had GERD, her specialty. I disagreed and she relented and said to follow up with her in a month to see if it was better but she wanted me to take medication for that month so I was confused on how I would know if it was better or worse with the medication surprising it? I did not go back!

At then end of my appointment she finally told me I didn’t have cancer, joking that I would probably want to know and that she had known for two weeks...?

After following up with my endocrinologist, she finally told me my symptoms were not normal! Referred me to an ENT who found out my vocal fold was paralyzed. All my symptoms, the coughing, my voice, the heartburn, everything was because of the paralyzed vocal fold. If Dr Laidlaw-Smith had listened to me and put all of my symptoms together, she could have figured out something was wrong. If she had seen me in the hospital after my surgery she would have seen how bad my face was. Please do not go to this surgeon. Try to go somewhere else!

I found Dr Laidlaw-Smith to be knowledgeable and informative. Our lively conversations were relaxing for me and I felt I was more than a patient with a medical issue.

I've been to tons of doctors and a gastroenterologist this last year for stomach issues. They either guessed or ordered one test per visit, very frustrating. Within one 15 minute visit with Laidlaw-Smith all the tests that I needed were ordered, explained, and she explained what may be going on so I could understand. So relieved to have a doctor that is actually helping me step by step with my health issue.
