I am the mother of a son who suffers from psychosis. It is an extremely stressful and challenging time for our entire family. When my son was admitted to North York General Hospital, we felt blessed that Doctor Zalan was assigned to his case. Finding the right medication for someone with psychosis, with minimal side effects and effective results, is not easy. Dr. Zalan patiently achieved this for us. With his help, we hope for a full recovery. Thank you, Doctor Zalan, from Daniel's mom.

I've been a patient of Dr. Zalan for a couple of years. I was curious and searched online about his age and found this page . Honestly, I felt I owe him a complement here as my experience with him was great.
He diagnosed my depression in such way that changed my life after too many wasted years living in a dark mood.
Sessions are usually not long as it is not a therapy. I've never felt bad while taking to him, he listens and usually do not interrupt.
However, I think, intentionally he acts in a neutral way that some might feel he is unempathetic. But he cares, because I had several follow ups, each time he changed the medication or my situation was different than the previous appointment.
I would give him a 8/10, at least based on my experience.

Unless you want your mental health issues to be worse, I suggest finding someone else. This doctor is either autistic or just a complete sociopath. I get anxiety just talking to him.

It’s too bad you can’t give scores in the negative… he’s a terrible doctor. Misdiagnosed me many times. Revoked my drivers license and then said he made a mistake. He tried calling the DMV to fix his stupid mistake but they wouldn’t give me back my dl. As a result my business and work life really suffered and obviously, was detrimental to my mental health and had the adverse effects to healing. When I called him a “fn retard” in an email, he literally sent an army of cops to my house and had me put on a form and committed to the mental ward for weeks. His reasoning for this :Saying I couldn’t call a doctor that. He’s got this condescending monotone. Doesn’t listen to a thing you say , talks at you, certainly not with you to try and solve whatever it is your going through. Well how can a sociopath help his patients, if he can’t even help himself??

Total robot. Diagnosed me with all kinds of things based on a few ten minute conversations. We tried all sorts of meds.

The issue was that I was trans. I figured that out myself.

This man is garbage. He made me feel like I was sub-human; he was lacking empathy and emotion. I would not recommend him to anyone. My experience with him was awful.

I felt like I didn't know how to answer any of his questions and he didn't ask anything that would lead me to a meaningful answer. Eg "What percent better do you feel when you take your meds?" He's also not really informed on some of the stuff that I was trying to talk to him about, that other mental health professionals have clearly kept up to date on. I just keep replaying it over in my head and I can't imagine that he got anything like an accurate read on me with the questions he asked or the observations he made. It was as if we were speaking across different planes of existence.

Dr. Zalan was incredibly condescending and rude. He treated me as if I was subhuman just because I was experiencing a mental health episode. His fellow doctors at NYGH were respectful and kind, so this does not reflect the hospital overall.
If you get assigned to him, switch immediately.

Ivory tower, cushy job .Practically, useless. One sick ‘puppy’. Arrogant. Loves to assert ‘I’m a medical doctor’. There’s nothing meaningfully measurable about this practitioner, the operativw word, practitioner. Very , very cold. Has no noticeable ‘human touch’.
