I would just like to say that Dr. Lau is very professional and extremely helpful!! If he is not as personable, etc. as some would like, consider he works with cancer patients day in, day out. He cannot afford to get personally involved in each case and still do his job effectively! Could you?....

Dr. Lau was able to explain my cancer well. Answered questions. Good team helping him. Coordinates everything well. I am the type of person who wants to know the facts. He will give you that.

Dr Lau is very intelligent, but doesn not have a sence of humor. His voice is very monotone and he is not going to hold your hand at first. Once you get to know him he loosens up (a bit lolol) and he is the best Dr in the world. I could say things to make him embarrased and he would hang his head and laugh under his head. lololol I was diagnosed with a very rare tumor on my nose bone that went threw my sinus, back of my eye, up threw my skull and into my frontal lobe. I also have many other rare diseases including a clotting disorder. This was a fast growing tumor. I was told by the neurosurgeon this was not good, all these things could go wrong, could happen. I said they are not going to, lets get er done and out. My motto is, this is just a speed bump in the road to life. We just have to get over it, and get a movin on!!! I have a special needs adult son I am the only family he has. Dr Lau got all the consults and surgery booked fast. I got meningitis after my first brain surgery. Dont remember 4 days of my life. Went home, noticed something not right, he got tests right away. Ended up having a brain abcesses, then later another one then 2 spinal fluid leaks out my nose. All reconized and fixed because of his good assessment and quick getting me tests done and getting me back into surgery right away. This man saved my life, more times than one!!!
5 yrs later was at the dentist and she noticed something funy on an x ray. She sent it to him. NO CONSULT from my GP. His office called me up, we have an MRI booked for you. He called me, cancer is in your neck and saliva gland in your face. Here we go again. His secretary had all the appts time for all the dr's set up, bloodwork everything ready to go!!!!
Now again I have been having more problems. Had a CAT scan and a MRI done. My neurosurgeon and other ENT and radiation opthomologist all told me there was no cancer in there. One of the Dr;s wanted Dr Lau's number. It had been over 5 yrs. I had this number I called it to see if it was still his office number. HE picked up the phone and from call display, he said Hi Patty whats going on?? I was shocked to say the least. So I told him what was going on and I was just looking for his phone number. He said he is not taking any new patients at the time, but if I wanted he would look at my scans with a great radiologist he knew and would get back to my Dr. I said I would love that. 2 days later he called me to tell me my cancer was back, with a PET scan date!!!! 3 DR'S HAD TOLD ME I DIDNT HAVE CANCER!!!!!!
Have now had the PET scan and he has called me to tell me where the tumor is how big, they cannot do surgery because its near the jugular artery which carries the blood supply to the brain and I am a bleeder. They cannot do radiation because I have had 60 already to my head and neck. So would I be willing to do chemo? YES YES YES!!!
I got a phone call today to say he has set me up with a fantastic chemo dr, appt time etc. I told his secretary I love him, he has saved my life and given me another 10 good years. I did not fight cancer. I lived with cancer because of him. He may have a monotone voice and a dry sence of humor. But I would give him and his staff a 10/10. This man saved my life!!! I came threw all this as a single woman with a special needs adult son, because of him. Would recommend him to anyone and I have been a nurse for 42 years.

I have lung cancer in both lungs. Left tumor removed successfully. Right tumor is in the middle lobe and is I operable. I have seen Dr. Lau on two different occasions both for a maximum of 5 minutes each. He has zero bedside manner and as far as i can tell does not give a rat's hiney about his patients or their feelings. On both appointments i have been an emotional wreck with zero empathy coming from Dr. Lau. I have one more appointment coming up with him and if i get the same response i will be asking for a different oncologist. I'm pretty sure he wouldnt like his mom, grandma, sister etc treated the way he treated me. If i could give zero stars i would.

I found Dr. LAU truly concerned about my well being. Initially treated for lung cancer back in 2015 and again undergoing tests for new developments. He is patient and answers my neverending questions. We have healthy arguments about treatments. Keep in mind people, it takes 2 to have a discussion. It is your body and you are entitled. You just may find a caring human behind those glasses.

I was diagnosed with Stage II throat cancer completely encompassing the left vocal cord & partial on the right. Met Dr. Lau & his staff in late Novemver of 2014. I thought he was a wee bit arrogant when he, along with his team met me at Tom Baker, and he proclaimed he couldn't give me the voice I would like but a voice I could live with. (As opposed to a hole in my neck as well.) He also added he would give me a 70% chance that he cold kick my cancer to to the curb, and iF after 5 years, I was still cancer free, he expected no more issues!
I am writing this on May 12th, 2019. Not only did I almost get back the voice I had before, but have had zero issues after consulting on a regular basis with my ENT Dr....Dr Bosch....who also is ultimately responsible, as instead of giving me a Laryngetomy, which was advised, he wanted to turn me over to the team at Tom Baker....thank you Dr Bosch also.
If you have a chance to talk to Dr Lau....ask him about the only patient he has ever met who wore ankle weights when I started losing weight and didn't want to go on a feeding tube...as I was a single male in a hospital full of beautiful nurses.

I was not impressed with Dr. Lau's conduct. He doesn't seem to care too much about his patients, or at least in my mum's case. He seemed angry when we said we weren't interested in a clinical trial. His nurse was excellent, I have no complaints about the staff that work with him. However, I feel that for a person working in cancer treatment he is not very compassionate. My mum didn't trust him, and was afraid to go see him without me in attendance. Ask to be transferred to another doctor if you have throat cancer, if you have the chance. Give this guy a pass.

My father was diagnosed with a stage 1 lung cancer and he died after 6-7 months under this doctor's care. There was little effort to help my father move through the difficult system, which was a lot of delays here and there. Poor follow up. Never call or come to see my father during the last days when he died in the hospital. I just have difficulty to rate him highly for anyone. I guess my father was just another customer. It is a shame if you ask me.
