Dr. Ilia Charapov is an excellent anesthesiologist. He is excellent in his manner and in his ability to put you at ease (and he inserts that needle without any pain). As a person in his 80's I have had many anesthesiologists and I would rank Dr. Charapov as the best. I would also recommend to the Association for Dental Surgeons to make Dr. Charapov's written description for patients concerning sleep procedures during dental work and what to expect to be mandatory for all dental offices. Dr. Charapov ends his written account with a quote from Mark Twain - it is an excellent read.

Dr. Charapov was Fantastic for my oral procedure. He even brought his sweet dog as a therapy dog for me, he went through all the details of what he was going to be fixing and then I awoke from slumber and everything was perfect! Couldn't have asked from a better dentist

Dr. Charapov has demonstrated an utter lack of professionalism when seeing my elderly father for a consult regarding anesthesia options for his dental surgery. My father has Parkinson's disease and has restricted mobility. He is staying at a long-term care facility and it takes significant time and effort for him to travel to medical appointments that take place outside of his facility and he is unable to do so without assistance of my mother. When my mother and he arrived at the clinic he was kept waiting for 40 minutes and was only seen when my mother checked in with a receptionist.
When they finally were brought in to see Dr. Charapov he did not apologize and acted in a very aggressive, patronizing and condescending manner. My mother and father are native Russian speakers and so is Dr. Charapov. Under any other circumstances, this would have probably been a great advantage to them but not in this case. Dr. Charapov chose to refer to my parents' Soviet background (they have lived in Canada for the last 25 years) and suggested that they are unable to provide him with informed responses as to what type of anesthesia they prefer due to the fact that they were used to being told what to do under the Soviet regime. They had 0 information about what options were available and he chose to bully and patronize them instead of providing them with this information and discussing the pros and cons of each. He also thought it was appropriate to use familiar language and comment on my mother's facial expressions, telling her she talks too much etc. Eventually, my father asked my mother to take him back to the nursing home as this visit was one of the most humiliating experiences he has had in a long while.
I am planning to report Dr. Charapov to College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and to the Patient Ombudsman of Ontario. This behaviour is completely unacceptable under any circumstances but I do not think it would be an exaggeration to say that Dr. Charapov managed to hit a new low by choosing to exhibit it with an elderly patient with Parkinson's. Unbelievable.

This Dr and/or someone in his support staff turned me into a paraplegic. I was not in for surgery, I was a strong, able bodied man. They assaulted me before and after they anesthetized me. Spine and spinal cord.
I am coming after all of you. Whoever did this should be in jail. So should the co-conspirators.
Avoid this garbage at all costs

Dr. Charapov was the doctor who did my sedation for my dental treatment. I was skeptical at first because of some of these reviews but I was assured by Penny the nurse at my dental office that he is in fact the very favourite of all patients and staff. I was glad I listened to her feedback as my visit was seamless and I felt and remember nothing and had zero lasting effects of the medications. I have asked them to place a note on my file that I only want to see this doctor for all my sedation needs. Don't believe everything you read on the internet folks.

Anesthesiologist Charapov dosed me with midazolam and propofol in a general anesthesia instead of a regional block for surgery to repair a distal radius fracture. He never told me he intended to do that. The dose he later called “short-acting”, caused me total memory loss for eight hours after my surgery. I have no memory of what was done to me during that period. It was never recovered. For weeks after I had memory lapses. I complained to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). Their lame decision was that he must communicate better with patients! To avoid this happening to you, be sure to hand write in any space on the Consent form the words “no Dr. Charapov to attend” then initial it and never retract it.

Anesthetist for emergency gallbladder removal and later spoke with Dr. Charapov for pre-op assessment. Both times he was knowledgeable, helpful - and calming. Very pleasant to deal with. With regard to anesthesia, the anesthesia he provided was the best of the three surgeries that I've had, no after effects, easy recovery. Highly recommend.
