Professor Kecks saved my life when I was just 19 years of age. Many years ago, this man diagnosed me with a severe mood disorder. I was very scared and sick.. My father attended every session with me and soon began to understand how serious my condition was. Professor Keks said one thing to me that I’ll always remember, ‘This is an acute condition, in one year you will recover and you will not need medication.’ He was right, in one year the trauma of psychotic depression lifted and I no longer needed medication and have never taken medication again. Contrary to the below reviews, Pr Keks, always recommend therapy sessions and hospitalisation if necessary. I did not go to hospital, my father and sister took care of me. Thank you so very much Professor Keks.

If it were not for Dr Keks, I would not be here.
I first went to him when I was struggling just to walk to the mail box. Agoraphobia, on top of other issues.
By the end of my treatment - which included many one on one appointments, medication, as well as group therapy - I was able to book a "round the world" ticket and go travelling!
I now live interstate, if I was in Victoria I would continue to see Dr Keks.
I cannot speak highly enough of him and his treatment methods.
They were painful, but extremely effective.

It was very difficult being a patient of this man and dealing with his temper and need for full control over me as a patient. I had no say whatsoever in my treatment and was completely unsupported emotionally. I feel he is well known for medication but for psychotherapy and building rapport he really had no strengths or ability, in my opinion.

Did not write often to my treating team or update me on what he was doing with my care, or reasons for hospitalisations, made it hard to get basic info when both me and my support people followed up for me, felt his was a model where Dr tells u what to do, and you follow. Great angry and upset when I asked questions about his care. Did not centre the patient or value input from me. Probably prefers patients who give a lot of positive affirmation, and not ones who ask questions, in my opinion.

Professor Keks diagnosed me with bpd in one session and focussed on my appearance, being female, and very pathologising ideas of mental illness. I do not recommend him for wholistic therapy, particularly for women. I had never been diagnosed with bpd before or after consulting him, and felt he did not provide trauma informed care. He was less interested in my past or my circumstances than pathologising me, and he didn't believe me when I disclosed abuse, which is very worrying.

Poor communication with patients, very authoritarian , dated approach where you must follow his directions rather than collaborate. Didn't provide any space to ask questions. Do not recommend based on his demeanour and approach

I found both Professor keks and his receptionists inept. I was brushed off when I asked questions about his timeline for helping me and given no answers or explanations on his process, it was completely confusing and distressing being his patient, particularly for someone who has experienced abuse and trauma.

Professor Keks did not show flexibility with my financial situation or offer consideration being that during these uncertain times I couldn't work and afford his sessions. I was looking to be connected to community supports and treatments but Professor Keks was unable to work with or collaborate with my community supports, he said I should find someone else for that but didn't refer me on or assist me with this. I felt he should've worked with me on my needs but when I told him that I needed support and referrals he said that wasn't his role. Rather, he took a very diagnostic approach and, I felt, treated me whol,y as a Dx. Rather than treating me as a human, I felt like I was a burden and nuisance. Professor Keks wasn't kind to me and was not understanding about the trauma I was going through

I didn't feel heard or respected and Nicholas keks became quite aggressive when questioned in session, saw him 6 times and can't say I benefited, he was very old fashioned but seemed to have a schema of himself as progressive as he kept comparing himself favourably to other drs. Avoid.
