I was in my late teens (17) when I went to see Dr Holmes (2010-2011). He made little to no effort to get to know me or listen to me about what I needed from a mental health professional and was extremely odd in behaviour towards me.
My biggest issue surrounds how he spoke to me extremely condescendingly, he believed absolutely nothing I said, told me X or Y was not the case and I found out after 3 sessions, he told my abusers(family members) without my prior consent or knowledge, the personal information I had shared with him in confidence during the sessions, which in turn inflicted far more damage.
After this breach of trust from Keith Holmes I stopped going to therapy, the abuse at home got quantifiably worse because my abusers would use what Holmes had revealed, weaponised against me and I was in a position where I now believed no one would help me or cared about me enough to believe me and to help me be okay.
Keith Holmes default position on anything I said was to treat the information as if I was not telling the truth or I was wrong in how I felt about what was being done to me. I felt gaslit to the point I convinced myself I was wrong and the abuse I was experiencing wasn't that bad and that it was my fault.
It took me years to go back to therapy and try to advocate for myself and get help. I was completely turned off and hated all mental health practices and saw no good in them.
He dismissed my own concerns for my worsening mental health as being a normal part of growing up and seemed to take my age and gender at the time for meaning I was automatically wrong about the things I said or I was having feelings he said weren’t warranted. He appears to have no social skills or tact; coupled with his profession and access to vulnerable youth is dangerous at minimum and abusive at worst. The damage Keith Holmes caused was massive and it took me years to believe talk therapy could and would be of benefit to me.

impossible to get through to. no progress after one year. hence have gone private. will be interesting to compare results/diagnosis. very disappointed with the time wasting involved in seeing this Dr. and would not recommend him to others. unfortunate for patients that this is the best that can be offered via public health.

the reviewer below who found him odd, described him well. that's a good description of Dr Holmes.

i agree with all the negative reports below and find the positive ones suspicious.

dr keith holmes was my psychiatrist for approximately 7 years. i would not still be here if it were not for him (among others of course). he is an excellent doctor. my only complaint is that he is not an adult psychiatrist, as i would have really benefited from having him help me permanently. he is extremely compassionate, kind, helpful and and an excellent listener. my whole family could see what a difference he made in my life, and in turn theirs, and we will forever be grateful that he was there when i needed someone. i had attended a couple of different psychiatrists before finding keith, and never felt as respected, or listened to as i did with him. he did not try to create problems where there were none, like the others did. he listened to what i was struggling with and helped me through those extremely difficult times and emotions. i understand that all psychiatrists have different approaches and suit every patient differently, and that is the only reason i can think of as to why there would be negative reviews for him. psychiatrists are not there to solve your problem(s), but they support you and do everything they can to make your journey through life easier, and that is exactly what keith provided for me. i sincerely cannot thank him enough.

Didn't tell me about any negative side effects of the multiple medications he put me on including the risk of death from drug interactions he put me on at the same time, the side effects still effect me to this day years after stopping them. Insisted I had "female autism" despite the fact I am and was openly transgender and had previously failed an ASD assessment, it was later determined I have SzPD instead. Awful experience, awful person, psychs like him are why people are rightfully too cautious to ever be seen by one

Dr. Holmes definitely likes to write positive reviews for himself.

Poor overall. Appointments cancelled on arrival for that appointment. Constantly complaining about underfunding and court cases that he had to go to as a reason for cancelling appointments.
Asks about music and looks it up to have a "connection" but this does not translate into a real concern or plan for the person. Sometimes spent almost the entire appointment talking about music. Tries to avoid taking more difficult and complex people but saw a person for 9 years with ASD with no comorbid issues because he was interested in this. Refused to prescribe and it seemed only because it wasn't his idea.
Very dismissive of serious self harm as "normal" part of adolescence and literally impossible to get an appointment after it became a very serious problem.
Making assumptions about parents that were entirely incorrect and not taking on board that his assumptions were incorrect.
Seems to know very little about HFAS overall.
Gets rid of patients by becoming so unreliable with appointments that the adolescent will refuse to attend anymore.

This man knows (unlike others) what depression is, and how it can harm you, if not treated accordingly. Excellent expert, truly empathetic, would always recommend to see!

Dr Holmes is good but very stubborn when it comes to prescribing things that actually work. I don't know how many times I told him that Abilify (arpriprazole) was useless and too sedating along with Zoloft (setraline). I told him that a GP had prescribed benzodiazepines (Valium and Xanax) in the past and wanted to try those but said they were too addictive.

Needs to be cloned: Best help we got: Always listening: Services too thin, doesn't judge, slow to give life long label. In crisis events he would see us at lunch or end of day. Mental health is complicated, if he appears not to be good its a reflection how how tough the rest of his cases are.
