I have to clarify that my rating is solely based on my meeting with him. He only seems to be concerned about his fees and money he can make from my valve repair surgery. He said I’ll charge a few thousand dollars more than what the medical insurance pays me (which might be fair as some surgeons do charge you a gap). What really bothered me was the fact that, he said it’s highly recommend to remove the left arterial appendage during the surgery, however, you’ll need to pay a few thousand dollars extra if you want me to do that too. This procedure will significantly reduced the chance of stroke after the surgery but if you don’t pay the extra I won’t be doing it and will only do the valve repayment. After I left his office I decided to see another surgeon who was also recommended to me by my cardiologist. During my visit he went over my echocardiogram results and clearly explained to me what to expect during the surgery and after that. I then asked him about the removal of the left atrial appendage removal and what he’d think, he replied yes of course I’ll do that while we have your chest open as it can result in stroke further on along the way. During my visit there was no mention of the extra $$ and he took his time explaining everything to me and showed genuine concern about me rather than his pocket. If you decided to see Dr Joshi, please make sure to see another surgeon and make a well educated decision. While he might be a good shy, I personally wouldn’t recommend him due to the reason above.
