Update: Susan Young is the correct name of the GP I also do not recommend from Soma Medical, not Helen Young

Terrible experiences with Soma Medical overall. Ralph doesn't trear serious problems, seriously. Just get brushed off and not checked thoroughly, with several known patients concerns not taken seriously resulting in very bad conditions that could have been less severe if treated when issues first raised. Same with Helen Young, who has a cold personality and bedside manner. Ralph is gentler but always late by up to an hour and the admin staff are always stressed, unfriendly and grumpy (especially his wife, Adrian). I absolutely do not recommend this doctor or that clinic.

I first met Dr Ralph at 17 due to a skin condition. We trialled a few options in the end he found a good solution. People must remember we are only human and a doctor can do his best given the open acceptance of his methods. As the year's passed I became quite fond of his integrity and depth of awareness of asking the right questions. I soon learned that I was the one needing to ask the questions... and as I am now 40. This doctor know's me deeply and genuinely cares. Well worth the wait..... God bless you Ralph... I think back to my anxiety and sleep deprivation. You said... here say this. 'Thank you Jesus for a good night's sleep I pray I wake to any unsafe sounds! Mate we are family I miss your personal understanding of my travel's. You helped me through and through.. with a jolly smile. Vitamin K2.... thank you sir

In response to below reviews. Yes, Dr Ralph Brock-Smith has been charged, however the full details of the case reveal he was trying his hardest to help a particularly troubled patient. This led to questionable decision making on his part, but he was only trying to help and ended up in a very unfortunate situation.

I believe Dr Ralph Brock-Smith is a very caring doctor and whoever wrote this reviews should get their facts straight before jumping to conclusions. Not many doctors would go through what he did to try and help someone.

Mr Ralph Brock Smith has pled guilty in a case held against him when he was practising medicine in Christchurch, in which he over prescribed adhd medication and falsified documents, as seen in the link below.

As a result he is BANNED from prescribing certain medications, as seen in the link below.

There is also two seperate cases of him misdiagnosing patients, perscribing them medication instead of finding the underlining illness and refering them to specialists. One was an elderly women in Christchurch who suffered a heart attack immediately after seeing Mr Smith and is now brain damaged as a result. The other was an infant from Upper Hutt, who died of a seizure not long after medications appeared to fix symptoms. Mr Smith was not punished in either of these cases as a misdiagnosis is not against the law in any way. These stories are listed below.

In my opinion, Dr Ralph Brock Smith should not have a medical license. I have personal experience of him being prescription happy and after some research it all adds up.

“A doctor whom generally goes the extra mile for his patience and is highly experienced in dealing with adult ADHD. I would travel the country to get his specised advice and care. I 100% fully reccomend Dr Ralph Brock Smith.“

Mr Ralph Brock Smith has a history of over perscibing ADHD medication, so much so he plead guilty in a case accusing him of over prescribing and frauding documents as seen in the link below.

http://i.stuff.co.nz/timaru-herald/265938/Doctors-script-friendly

He has also been criticised of misdiagnosing patients in the past and perscribing drugs to mask symptoms, but resaulting in tragedy due to serious conditions that were not picked up. One instance led to a woman having a stroke and becoming brain damaged immediately after seeing Mr Smith, as seen in the link below.

http://www.investigatemagazine.com/oct00med.htm

Another case saw a young child die after symptoms were masked with drugs, as seen in the link below.

http://i.stuff.co.nz/national/10374909/Babys-dehydration-was-fatal

He was not punished in the last two cases as there’s nothing illegal about a misdiagnosis.

He is BANNED from perscibing a range of medications, as seen below.

Mr Ralph Brock Smith is a perfect example of a doctor who is too quick to make a percription, he has proven this himself with his past. I would not be entirely surprised if he wrote the above review himself.
