I recently went to see Dr. Hiles at the new Kaiser facility and my experience was fantastic! My previous doctor retired and I needed a new doctor as soon as possible. Dr. Hiles and her staff made the transition really smooth for me. I read some of the other comments and people need to understand that doctors don't have any control over other departments. Especially in the case of referrals. Kaiser also restricts the type of pain meds that can be prescribed by doctors that accept Kaiser. I'm on meds and understand that I can't walk into ANY doctors office with a self diagnosis and demand a particular drug. I'm not a doctor and would never think that I was qualified to tell a doctor what his or her job was.

As far as meds for depression, Kaiser limits what can be prescribed by their doctors. It is up to a psychiatrist to properly diagnose and prescribe the right meds. Add to that the many months of adjustments it takes to really get the doses dialed in.

I really liked my first appointment and will continue seeing Dr. Hiles.

Scheduled an appointment with her because I was struggling to get Kaiser to approve an MRI requested by my current provider who had recently been dropped by Kaiser. Arrived on time for appointment and was taken to the exam room shortly thereafter. It was then they realized that I was a first time patient so I had to give them all of the same info that I gave when I set the appointment up.

When Dr. Hiles finally came in, I explained my history with my back and why my other provider thought I should have an MRI to see what has deteriorated since the prior one 19 years before. She said she couldn't do anything about the MRI and suggested that I take more Tylenol which was as strong a medicine as I would take. Finally got her to refer me to an orthopedic surgeon two months out. Never mind the current pain.

I then tried to ask about a second issue I was having but was told that I would have to make another appointment for that issue. In short, she acted like she really did not have time for me. The only word I could use is "cold". Total time spent with her was about ten minutes.

When I received my bill it was for a 45 minute exam and totaled $296.00! I have tried to dispute this for two months, but everyone at Kaiser says they will submit the dispute but then two weeks later there is no record of the dispute. My recommendation is do not go to Megan Hiles or any Kaiser physician for that matter.

Noncommittal to the point of being evasive, dodged or simply refused to answer basically all my questions. Her associated specialist network was even worse (poor spoken communication skills, dismissive of questions, incapable of handling simple referrals, etc). The whole experience was very frustrating, indeed a complete waste of time.

I set an appointment because I was experiencing depression. When Dr.HIles got to me today, she didn'tknow why I was there. Perhaps that was her staff. But to continue, I asked for a short term med to help me through a really bad time I'm going through. She wanted to hospitalize me. I declined, as that would get me fired from my job and told her that. She asked what had worked in the past, I said valium. I also tried to say "anything old school is better" and she interrupted. In fact, it'slike she turned into Joe Pesci: "Ok, ok ok ok ok" when I tried to speak. She offered Celexa, tried to tell her that made me shake and that it seems no one will believe me in the medical community. I told her my depression makes me easily set off, I had cried myself to sleep last night, under enormous pressure at work. She asked if I wanted to fillout a questionairred to get me to a psychiatrist. I said yes. Ten minutes later, a nurse came back with a handout and a number for outpatient help. I saw no psychiatrists numbers on there and she neglected to come back and speak to me again. I also asked for insulin and she said, "There are refills down there." I went down, no there were not. So the pharmacy had to send a fax to her. I went back up to ensure she got that, the front desk man made me repeat myself and tried to send me back to the pharmacy. I just repeated myself until he went and got a nurse. I belive that nurse was Melissa, who seems to take pleasure in irritating me and also hangs at a place called Shovelhead - a biker bar. AND who did not know what 'anchoring the vein" meant to avoid a painful IV in the back of my hand. She asked where I heard that and I replied "From one of your staff that took my blood earlier." My experience with Ms. Hiles and Melissa have been poor. Incomplete communication, interrupting me when I try to speak and explain or ask questions, and dropping the ball on key issues. Why did I pay a co-pay again?

I found Dr Hiles to be very through. Did not feel rushed. Ran some tests waiting for results.

Nurse was rude upon check in. Was seen two weeks ago by a physicians assistant at this location for shoulder and neck pain of a 1 month duration which has been getting worse. She prescribed 2.5 days worth of muscle relaxants and gave me a referral to a physical therapy clinic. The PT clinic could not give me an appt for two weeks. The two days of muscle relaxants did nothing so while waiting for my PT appt I made another appt to see Dr Hiles. She prescribed Gabapentin at 100 mg once daily. When I explained that gabapentin only provides pain relief to 31% of patients at 12 times the dose prescribed and onset of action can be 3 days to 1 week she brushed off my concerns and told me to just give it time. Meanwhile I am now in excruciating pain, I am not sleeping and I am missing work. I do not know if she is worried about drug seeking behavior, which I have never requested anything for pain prior to this injury and my first visit 2 weeks ago. Or if this doctor just has no clue.
