He was found guilty of OHIP fraud in Canada. I'm glad that this came out as it underlines his credibility.

I was referred to Dr Smith 1.5 years ago as a result of a Hurt on Duty claim due to my work as a Police officer and repeated exposure to traumatic experiences. Previous to his care I was managed for 2 years through my GP and on SSRI medication which at times is not the answer. He diagnosed me with PTSD, managed my medication at the peak time of my symptoms and oversaw my return to work to an eventual return to full operational duties in my pre - injury role. He brought me from dissociative flashbacks and crying in a corner at home to again having the confidence to be relied on individually by the community. I honestly did not believe Id be able to return to my role considering how significant the symptoms had become. I have just received an email of his retirement and I have shed a tear cause all his patients have lost a stalwart to their treating team. He worked well into his late 70s, which shows you his dedication and passion to the field. He dealt with people who are at their worst who had had lived the worst experiences or repeatedly dealt with the worst of human society in volatile times. Dealing with people at the acute phase of their mental illness is incredibly draining and he managed a wide variety of those people for quite possibly 45 to 50 years. It appeared to me he could do his job with his eyes closed. Alot of managers were intimidated by him due to his intelligence and no nonsense approach. His priority appeared to be my welfare alone and when he backs you he goes hard. His ability to remain professional, strong, controlled, and compassionate in all appointments gave me confidence in my recovery and played a pivotal role to my recovery. That period of my life will have a lasting effect on me and the people who contributed to my recovery will always be remembered. He helped many people and was revered through the NSW police from all levels as the person to see when the PTSD bus eventually hit them, everyone knew him as “Selwyn”. He cared for and diagnosed people correctly which allowed them the reassurance at being cared for compensatory to the level of injury they incurred. Goodluck in retirement.

He looks after the patient, he try to surround you with the right tools to recover.
I found him to be professional and personal taking time to help and guide me through the nightmare of Workcover and the system I was placed in by my employer.

Dr Smith is THE BEST - a kind, caring, ethical, professional. I had a lengthy court case spanning many years and I felt proud and grateful that he ' was in my corner '. One of the amazing qualities of this true gentleman is that on each visit I would be thinking what I needed to explain and how I was feeling etc and ended up going in there and blah blah blahing 😊 about everything - all over the place - but ' he gets it ' is able to identify the crux of the matter and what needs to be done and how he can assist. A true gentleman and with my court case and my now well being - I couldn't have 'done it without him . 💫

Dr Smith helped me when I was at my lowest of lows. Without him I would not have survived , he became like a father to me . I will be forever grateful to this beautiful kind and knowledgeable pyscharatrist. The most wonderful doctor I could ever ask for .

A true professional with extensive knowledge in his field of expertise. Outstanding understanding of patient needs and an excellent skill of helping to put thoughts into words. This gentleman instills hope because to put it quite simply he 'gets it'. At the end of the consult, he stood up, looked me in the eyes and said 'don't worry, let me look after you.' People in my shoes need a man like Dr Smith. A remarkable man doing a remarkable job. Will never be able to thank him enough.
