First off I would like to state that 4 doctors in Maryland laughed at what she fitted me for. One said "you live in FL? You look like you are going skiing". The were completely impracticable. I have lymphedema in my waist, groin, hips, abdomen, entire left leg, foot and am fibrotic. She gave me biking shorts, toe caps and a thigh high. That leaves room for the lymph to move and life time of yeast infections. Plus what am I supposed to wear over that? I am a lady not an Eskimo who requires layers of clothing to stay warm. She promised I would be back in my motorcycle boots after treatment. Did not happen. I did ask for my medical records and she referred to me as "he" all over the docs. Stated I have Congestive Heart Disease (that's news to me and my Primary Care Doc) and she did work on the scar tissue on my breast WHAT??!! I have lower extremity Lymphedema. I started seeing Ellen in May for severe lymphedema in my leg. She did the daily
wrappings on my leg, measured me for garments and all was well. She seemed
attentive and seemed to care that I was in extreme pain all the time and made
it seem like time was of the essence in treating such a disease. As the weeks
progressed however, the garments she ordered never came and when a few toe caps arrived
they were completely wrong. This scenario kept happening over and over as the weeks
went by and I started to wonder if she really understood that I was slipping past the point
of no return with this disease. It turns out that the company from which she orders garments
is just some woman ordering from who knows where and then altering them per the individual's
measurements. When confronting this 3rd party who "custom makes" the garments, I
was screamed at and treated like dirt. Ellen put up a facade of concern, but ultimately
did nothing to try and fix the situation. Even during her personal crisis, I went out of my
way to console her and cheer her up. By this time my leg had turned fibrotic up to the
knee and was insufferably painful all the time. I got to the point of actually attempting suicide, I had
no alternative specialists that knew the first thing about lymphedema, I had given up.
When I made it through my personal crisis and tried to reconnect with Ellen in relaying
my ordeal., there was no compassion. After telling her all I had been through, all she
could say was "oh dear". REALLY?
FYI The person who requested and made sure I received my 8 chamber compression pump was my podiatrist.
So after looking into it further, I found Ellen was billing my insurance 6 times what the
average cost for this type of care would cost. The bandages needed for the wrapping $230 were not even included in the therapy. I had to pay out of pocket with no "insurance code" so I could be reimbursed. I even purchased out of pocket every $100 bottle of vitamin and some "snake oil" called Rhuemate for $200. Now I am broke and broken
