Dr Buchanan is a nice dr who took the time to address everything before my procedures. My first spine fusion went great. Pain in leg went away and initial back pain was better. I felt really well the first few days after the surgery. The drain fell out on day 1 though and was never replaced- instead was stitched up which caused another surgery to be preformed a week later due to complications from drain not being put back in. After the second surgery, pain continued to get worse and here I am 12 weeks later now with nerve pain down my left leg, urinary issues, electrocuting pain in back and feeling worse than before the surgery. Dealing with his assistant Ashley and PA Madison has been awful. You never get a call back and if you do it’s days later and they treat you as if you’re a no body. The last thing you want when being in a tremendous amount of pain is rude staff and problems with scripts. I’ve sat in the office for hours waiting to be seen before. His assistant Ashley has called the pharmacy and changed refill dates on me several times which led me to not be able to even get out of bed. I’ve been told my tolerance for pain medicine is very high and have been treated awful from the staff. Every patients pain tolerance is different and it’s very un professional to talk to a patient like that let alone call the pharmacy and put notes on the script saying don’t fill until Friday when your refill date was a week ago! Than you go in on a Friday and it says don’t fill until Saturday. Now it says don’t fill until Monday. When your quality of life has been taken away from you the last thing you want to deal with is a doctors office like this.

In Aurora, Colorado now at Colorado Brain & Spine Institute. And, couldn’t have asked for better brain surgeon, whew! Knowledgeable & VERY KIND, Dr. Buchanan is solid physician who’s well-handling my case. Brain surgery on 8/30 was seamless. Between he & MA, many in-person, in-hospital checks (wow). Team player w/other specialists, great communicator & HE LISTENS. No qualms entrusting my NS care to this committed MD. His team is equally wonderful & reliable: Madison (terrific, smart MA); Kristi & Lorraine will make it happen with a smile. All stars all around.

He is young, and he might remind you a little of Doogie Hauser, but he also enjoys a challenge and will tell you straight up like it is. He is knowledgeable and very thorough in his explanation of what he wants to do and why he wants to do it (and you can interrupt him left and right!) He has a very calm, mellow demeanor and doesn't come off as arrogant, pushy, or mean. If you want a neuro who will spend 45 minutes explaining a potential surgery, patiently answer all of your questions (even if you repeat yourself because you're nervous), and generally make you feel at ease, then go with Dr. Buchanan.
