I am sorry he has died but I wish he hadn’t because I was biding my time before making a CPSBC complaint against him. Like a previous reviewer I asked for help through my medical professional organization. It was my choice. He made everything difficult. I just wanted help. His report was full of inaccuracies and actually prevented me from getting timely help. He should have recognized he was no longer capable of practicing long before he retired. Pretty ironic that a guy that judged others kept practicing while he himself was more incapacitated than those he assessed.

He sexually abused me when I was 16 and a client at the Last Door Recovery Society's youth program. I'm sure it was on the orders of someone higher up than him in the Last Door Cult. Hello, VPD? RCMP? Put a STOP to these Goofs!!

It's tough to criticize an addictiona specialist, denial is a hallmark of addiction, so it's understandable that a lot of people won't like what they hear. In my case I was well past the point of denial. I self-disclosed my addiction issues to my employer because I WANTED help, but Dr Hedges was a more a of a hindrance.

Hedges is about 40 years behind on addictions research. He forces every patient into 12 step programs because that's what worked for him, regardless of personal beliefs or past experience with that approach. The report he submitted to my employer contained more factual errors than truths, and I'm not even talking about his recommendations. He got my job wrong, my education wrong, my medical history wrong, my family history wrong, my treatment and substance use history wrong, and much much more. It read like he'd taken someone else's report, slapped my name on it and charged my employer $2000.

I held off a couple years before writing this to be sure judgement was sound. I'm 2 years sober now thanks to Smart Recovery and CBT, and the more I've learned about the science of addiction, the more I realize that Dr Hedges is not fit to practice addictions medicine.

Dr. Hedges is truly a gift to this world. I have never felt more comfortable with a doctor than I do when in the care of Dr. Hedges. He is the most compassionate, honest, and patient doctor I've met and I can always trust I am in good hands when I see him.

i have been under doc hedges care for just under 30 years now. The only time i ever felt that doc wasn't helping me enough was when I recently acquired hep A while on vacation. I complained that i was not receiving pain medication because of his own personnel beliefs. This was definitely not the case as jaundice turns into a neurological disorder as he explained. I was very satisfied with his explanation. As i have now read through these comments I see a pattern that I almost fell into. NOT HEARING AND GETTING THE RESULT THAT I WANTED. His compassion for my condition and explanation of the journey I would be on put me mentally at ease. I would recommend Doc Hedges to anyone and I have to a few of my close friends that have suffered addiction and sports injury. My son is now in his care and i can only wish that we have Doc Hedges in our lives for many years to come . Thank you Doc.

Doctor Hedges saved my life !!! I was living what I thought was a life with a family, great job, athletics but I was alone with my disease of addiction pretty much dead to the world. When I asked for help I was not judged by Hedges but showed compassion and given options to address my disease. I have read these reviews and I see the old me in the responses by others left hear. Blame, Shame, Fear and Guilt, an outlook of it is everyone else's fault. I have been given the gift of life again through his support and my own effort to stay clean. I trust Hedges with my life as he still today treats me as a human not as a number. You can't treat the disease of addiction with another medication or prescription as you are trading one for another. My sisters life has been ruined by what some of the previous responses call "current addiction medicine" or "current facts" with not being able to wean off her prescriptions and has caused a downward spiral of her being isolated and jumping from one doctor to the next. Many of us have never liked hearing that we were an addict or an alcoholic through family or friends but at some point in time you need to look in the mirror and ask for help. At this point it seems like the responses left by others blaming Dr. Hedges have failed to do just that.

I am really dumbfounded to read the reviews that seem to be left by a one or couple of trolls who did not get the results as they wanted without putting in the effort. I have a 20+ year history with Doctor Hedges, his patients come first and will go out of his way to ensure you are getting the care you deserve and need, not what they want. I have been to drop in clinics in the past and it is the same old song and dance, walk in 3 minutes later walk out with a prescription. The level of care that Hedges provides has really been lost in the medical field. Shame on you trolls for trying to discredit him, for you not achieving what you wanted out of your single or multiple visits. Go to the next doctor to try get you want or look inside and realize that you may be the problem. Time to put in the work or don't complain.
