Betty-Anne showed up for me when no one else would. When we found out at 38 weeks our baby was breech my care provider only gave me one option, scheduled cesarean. I wasn’t ok with that, I felt abandoned from a system that should have been supporting me. They view breech births as a problem rather than what it really is, a variant of normal! As a first time mom- I did my own research, learned about Betty-Anne and I felt I should at least have the opportunity to feel what labour was like and have a trial of labour.
Betty-Anne answered my call for help. I’m still so thankful she returned my call. She was supportive of my wishes and facilitated the process to take over the transfer of care, the countless hours of paperwork required.She is highly skilled, educated, and we are lucky to have a true breech specialist here in Ottawa. She is passionate and provides top tier evidenced based pregnancy care. Her highest priority is supporting you through a safe birth you desire. We are so grateful for Betty-Anne. We need more midwives like Betty-Anne in our health care system, she brought hope and Love to my birth rather than fear.

I just had the privilege of working with this amazing midwife - the only provider willing to challenge our cultural view that vaginal breech birth is a pathology. I had a client who felt very strongly about her ability - and her rite - to have a SUPPORTED physiological labour. I was able to be a doula for the first time in a LONG time - I felt complete confidence in Betty-Anne to keep my client both physically AND emotionally safe. The time and energy she committed to this family was incredible her vast experience, her reassuring and confident, competent care, her gentle voice and her willingness to bear the brunt of a system that doesn’t believe that any breech birth is safe or even possible, I can’t say enough good things. It was an honour working alongside a real CARE provider who values hormonal physiology and does everything she can to protect the woman and her family and their safety while birthing within a challenging system.

You will never find a midwife who goes above and beyond the way Betty Anne does. Not only is she incredibly knowledgeable, compassionate and caring but she will advocate for you in all the ways she can. She moved mountains for me when no other provider wanted to help-- listened to what was important to me and was able to find a way to help me have the breech delivery I knew I could have (it was not easy--so much red tape when it comes to breech vaginal births and she is not afraid of working the system to make the necessary changes). She spent countless hours taking over care at the last minute and she was responsible for orchestrating a perfect birth! I am a hospital care provider (employee) who was met with negative rumours about her at first, like every other provider experiences who pushes boundaries to change things that are not appropriate in our obstetric system. Very unfortunate, but for anyone who questions it, her published data and records speak for themselves.

Betty Anne was an incredible advocate for the birth of my twins. She went above and beyond in being there for us even when medical intervention was needed, helping us to make informed decisions and advocate for ourselves when she was unable. Both before, after and during the birth she dedicated countless hours to me, my partner, and the boys even though my care was shared with another midwife group and that meant less monetary reimbursement for her. She is a true woman’s birthing activist and we feel so grateful that she was such a big part of our experience. This woman is the real deal and the world is a better place because of midwives like her
